“Keshi should have invited Osaze and Martins, Nigeria will not win the Nations Cup” – Akanni

By

As the Super Eagles continue to prepare for the Africa Nations Cup holding in South Africa this month, an ex-international Waidi Akanni, has said the team will not win the competition.
Akanni was reacting to the below par performance by Stephen Keshi’s men, in the goalless draw against Cape Verde. In his opinion, the tiny African country exposed the Eagles’ frailties and showed how unprepared they are.
“Technically speaking, I believe we have a squad but not a team yet,” Akanni told Vanguard Sports. “The performance of the team against Cape Verde only justified the belief by some of us that Nigeria was not going to be represented by her best players,” he said.
He also slammed Keshi for not inviting players like Osaze Odemwingie, Obafemi Martins, Obinna Nsofor, etc to be part of his squad to Nations Cup.
“Personally, I was not comfortable with the exclusion of players like Osaze, Martins, Obinna Nsofor among others when he announced the preliminary list.”
“He should have given them the chance to prove their worth. Even Niyi Adeleye whom everybody is saying would take over from Yobo was ignored.
“I don’t see them winning the trophy. May be, in a future edition, definitely, not this,” he said.
