N2,700 online fraud: There are many fake Babatunde Fasholas on Facebook – Lagos gov’t warns

by Rachel Ogbu

A very fraudulent email through Facebook is circulating asking members of the public to pay N2,700 to a Guaranty Trust Bank account as application form fee for employment under the name of “Babatunde Fashola,” Lagos State government warns .
According to reports, the email states that the GT Bank account was opened in the name of one Onyebe Earnest, who according to the state government, had been sending bulk short messages (SMS) with the name “CSC Lagos” to advise the public on the GTB account number into which the money should be paid.
Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Hakeem Bello dissociated the state government from the message, warning the general public to regard such SMS as “false and misleading”.
In a statement, the government clarified that employment processes in the Civil Service Commission would not require the payment of any fee, stressing that the government had the responsibility to protect the interest of the citizens.
“The government will take every legitimate action to ensure that those behind the scam are apprehended and brought to book,” it read.
