By

unemployment in nigeriaPresident Goodluck Jonathan has been urged and advised by Nigerians to cut down the high rate of unemployment in the country this year.
Speaking to a cross section of Average income earning Nigerians and youth, it was revealed that Nigerians are mostly concerned with the President reducing the high rate of unemployment, improvement in power supply, and better roads.
In another development, NOI poll limited also conducted a survey, which the key finding correlated to the yearnings of Nigerians in the same sectors.
The respondents of the NOI poll were asked about their experience during the Christmas and New Year season and what they feel the President should do in 2013.
The poll disclosed, “From the results, the majority of respondents (24 per cent) were of the opinion that the most important issue the president needs to focus on is addressing unemployment. This is followed by improving electricity supply (18 per cent), tackling insecurity (17 per cent), and eradicating corruption (10 per cent).
“Furthermore, eight per cent talked about improving basic infrastructure, while six per cent talked about improving education, and five per cent mentioned the boosting of agriculture. A paltry three per cent each mentioned the economy, health care and constitution; while two per cent mentioned tackling poverty.”
NOI Polls added, “Interestingly, when analysed further across geo-political zones, the results show that the South-south zone has by far the highest proportion of respondents that claim their holiday was very enjoyable (60 per cent), and this may be explained by the series of carnivals, festivals and events organised and sponsored by state governments within the region.”
The research showed various yearnings of Nigerians but the most reoccurring yearnings were that of unemployment, power, and security.
Many called on the President to take a firm stand in the coming years and tackle those issues for the last time.
