PDP Agrees With Jonathan, Says Poverty, Misrule Not Cause of Boko Haram
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has come out in strong defense of President Jonathan who said that poverty and misrule were not the cause of terrorism occasioned by the Boko Haram sect.
The PDP gave its support to the President in a statement released by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh.
In the statement, Metuh said " The President is right and we fully align with him on his position that Boko Haram is not a product of poverty or misrule as some people are suggesting. We agree with him that it is a local terror group.
There have been successive regimes before this administration but this insurgency increased the same way terrorist activities are escalating in other parts of the world at this time. So it is clear that some people are out to perpetrate acts of terrorism in Nigeria to create a semblance of insecurity as it obtains in other troubled spots of the world.”
“The President is correct on the issue of power. We all know that power supply in the country has improved tremendously under his watch and we have confidence in the President’s assertion that Nigerians will witness tremendous stability in power supply very soon”.
Also the President's Special Assistant on New Media, Reno Omokri, had faulted the Nigerian Correspondent of the Associated Press, Jon Gambrell, who had allegedly misquoted the President's responses on the CNN interview with Christiane Amanpour.
Said Omokri to Gambrell in an exchange between the duo on twitter
There's poverty in Nigeria but terrorism isn't necessarily due to poverty. Think Mutallab and Bin Laden both scions of wealth. See tweet below;
