Three dead, several injured as police and area boys clash in Lagos

Three persons died while several others sustained injuries, during a violent clash that occurred Monday morning between some social miscreants popularly known as Area Boys and Policemen in Ikotun, Lagos.
The clash began after some Police officers from Area ‘M’ Command, Idimu, stormed an Indian hemp joint around Agbole area of Ikotun to arrest some suspected hoodlums, eyewitnesses disclosed.
The clash however became violent when the suspects resisted the arrest, struggling with the officers.
In the heat of the heightened argument between both parties, one of the Police officers allegedly “fired a shot which killed one of the suspects on the spot.”
To protest the death his death, over a hundred youths, armed with dangerous weapons, stormed Ikotun division hours later.
We gathered that the youth attempted burning down the station as policemen fired some shots into the air to disperse them all.
Three persons were shot dead while several others sustained injuries in the process, eyewitnesses said.
