reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act because certain members of
Congress were concerned that the most recently proposed version of the bill offered
too much explicit protection to certain communities, namely women of
color, immigrants, tribal women, and lesbian/trans women. The original
1994 bill was drafted by Joe "America's Happiest Warrior" Biden, who
gave a powerful speech calling for its authorization last year that was so good I could barely pick just one quote to pull from it.
