Woman kills her former husband by pouring boiling water on him... Read Why

It is never a good idea to remain living in the same apartment with your former spouse after divorce.

A Northern California woman will stand trial for the murder of her former husband, who died two weeks after she allegedly threw a pot of boiling water on him during a fit of jealousy.

Jesusa Tatad, of Daly City, California, allegedly attacked her former husband, Ronnie Tatad, in his sleep. The incident occurred in the small studio apartment, of 600 square feet, the pair shared despite divorcing in December 2007, the local news media reported.

Jesusa, 39, threw boiling water over her sleeping former husband and then beat him with a baseball bat because she thought he was conducting a relationship with another woman, prosecutors said.

Ronnie, 36, died two weeks after the incident, from a bacterial infection of the blood that was caused by the burns covering nearly 55 percent of his body, according to the testimony of Daly City police detective, Gregg Oglesby.

San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Clifford Cretan ruled at a preliminary hearing that there is sufficient evidence that Jesusa to be tried for six felony charges, including murder, mutilation and torture.

A maintenance worker at the apartment complex was one of the first people to see Ronnie run out of the apartment half naked after the alleged attack. The worker said he found Ronnie screaming for help behind a car, the skin of his hands was so badly burned that he was "chipping", Oglesby said.
Oglesby said that Ronnie was hysterical when Jesusa was coming towards him and shouted: "Get away from me. Go."

Oglesby said he was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital where he later died.
Jesusa has admitted to pour boiling water over her former husband, when the police officer Ira Perez arrived at the scene, but has since pleaded not guilty.

Jesusa’s attorney, John May, tried to convince the audience that Jesusa did not deserve these charges since there is no evidence that her former husband was attacked by a desire for revenge.

"It takes time to heat the water," said a prosecutor. "Dumping a large pot of boiling water on someone is going to cause a disability and disfigurement."
Jesusa is being held without bail.
