Suspect Coxson Lerebori Lucky Arrested As Alleged Ringleader In Lynching Of Four Aluu Students

By SaharaReporters, New York
The alleged instigator of the vigilante murder of four University of Port Harcourt students in Aluu community, Rivers State, has been arrested, Nigerian police announced today.
The suspect’s name was given as Coxson Lerebori Lucky, also known as “Bright”.
Lucky had been sought for questioning after the four students - Ugonna Obuzor, 18; Lloyd Toku, 19; Tekena Elkanah, 20, and Chiadika Biringa, 20 - were brutally killed by a mob who beat and “necklaced” the youths ten days ago. A video captured the students on the ground, fully disrobed with tires being forced over their heads. The mob pummeled them into bloody pulps with clubs after which they tossed kerosene on the near lifeless bodies and set them on fire.
According to police reports, the arrested suspect organized the vigilante mob by claiming the students had stolen laptops and smart-phones, a claim that was disputed by parents of one of the students and police authorities.
Twenty-one people have so far been arrested and the IG of police has ordered an inquest into the alleged involvement of police who were sighted in the area but failed to act, and has promised to bring to book any police officer found involved or negligent in the killing.

Election Monitor: Odumakin wife’s angry reaction is proof we are right – ACN

Mrs. Joe Odumakin has long association with Tunde Bakare and other known vocal supporters of Segun Mimiko
Mrs. Joe Odumakin has long association with Tunde Bakare and other known vocal supporters of Segun Mimiko
The ACN yesterday insisted that the accreditation of Women Arise to observe Saturday’s governorship election  should be withdrawn because its impartiality is questionable, despite attempts by its President, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, to present her group as an impartial observer.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the vehemence with which Dr. Okei-Odumakin defended her group, even resorting to the use of uncouth language, shows that the ACN hit the bull’s eye with its earlier statement.
”What we said in our earlier statement is that INEC, in its choice of which election observers to accredit, has exhibited gross partisanship in favour of the Labour Party (LP) in Ondo for the following reasons: The Coalition of Democrats for Election Reforms (CODER) was de-accredited, apparently on the basis of alleged partisanship, and in its place Women Arise was accredited; That Women Arise cannot be put up as neutral when its President is the wife of Yinka Odumakin, who has openly endorsed Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of LP, in addition to being a political associate of Pastor Tunde Bakare who has also endorsed Governor Mimiko.
”We also said Femi Aduwo of Rights Monitoring Group (RMG), which has also been accredited to observe Saturday’s election, is a known supporter of Governor Mimiko of the LP; That RMG has been given 1,500 tags while other NGOs have been given only 100 each; That RMG plans to give its cards to LP thugs; That the Monitoring Unit of INEC, which is behind all the shenanigans, colluded with a political party during the 2010 Anambra election and that the fake monitors were arrested and the matter is still in court
”We are, therefore, renewing our call on INEC to immediately withdraw the accreditation of Women Arise and RMG, if the electoral body is serious about its stated intention to ensure that the Ondo State Governorship Polls is not only free, fair and credible, but seen to be so.
”We concede the rights of Pastor Tunde Bakare, Mr. Yinka Odumakin and Mr. Femi Aduwo to support and endorse any candidate of their choice. However you don’t need a Sixth Sense to realise that such a person, his or her spouse or friend cannot be appointed as an election monitor or observer,” ACN said.
The party said it will not respond to the personal attacks contained in the highly-defensive statement issued by an obviously-rattled Dr. Okei-Odumakin, because it (ACN) is well known for dwelling on issues instead of personalities.
It said, however, that Dr. Okei-Odumakin completely missed the point in her statement concerning whether her being the wife of a known supporter of Mimiko compromises her group’s impartiality as an observer in Saturday’s election.
”Nobody is interested in who is the head of the Odumakin family or whether or not she calls the shot. The question is: ‘Will the average person believe in her impartiality given her husband’s open endorsement of Dr. Mimiko? Again, it is irrelevant whether Women Arise was appointed before or after CODER was de-accredited.
The point is that CODER was de-accredited on the grounds of alleged partisanship and Women Arise is still on the list. We have not been told how INEC arrived at its conclusion over CODER’s partisanship, but we have proved beyond reasonable doubt that Women Arise and RMG cannot be perceived to be neutral ”Dr. Okei-Odumakin also asked whether ACN was not aware of her marital links when the party enlisted the support of her group to protest against the injustice meted out to Justice Salami. The question to ask is: Was her NGO hired for the protest and how much was she paid for it?” ACN queried.
But in her reaction, Dr. Okei-Odumakin said Mohammed was merely expressing his personal opinion.
She said in a statement: “Women Arise is once again constrained to respond to the orchestrated campaign of calumny being carried  out against it  by the Action Congress of Nigeria through its megaphone of lies, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
“In twenty four hours, Alhaji Mohammed has issued two statements against us, repeating the same baseless and puerile allegations against our organisation .
“In what has become a special forte of Alhaji Mohammed, one set of rules for ACN and a different one for others, the ACN spokesman’s only allegation against Women Arise is that the group cannot be independent because the hubby of the president has expressed his personal opinion.
“Yet, Lai Mohammed and his party insist that the volume of calls himself and other leaders of his party had with Justice Salami who was giving judgements in ACN favour had no relationships.
“It is more absurd that he, in one breath, wants CODER which was formed and is being funded by the ACN leader, accredited and in another, asks for de-accreditation of Women Arise with no evidence of link to any political party.
“An Alhaji Mohammed, whose wife is probably an “eleha”(woman in purdah), who can only be seen but not heard, may not appreciate the place of women who have broken the ceilings of religion and traditions.
“And for a man who has served more of a political serf to his former friend in the last 14 years, it may be that the only place left for him to exercise authority bordering on dictatorship is over his wife!
“As to the non-question of Mohammed, if Women Arise was hired to participate in any protest, our response is that we cannot be bought with all the illicit funds his group is using to destroy all institutions.
“The group participated freely in the first protest on Salami when it thought that it was an altruistic cause but declined in a second protest having gotten the full facts of the unholy alliance.
“Perhaps, it is Mohammed and his people who should explain why they were “hiring” people to protest if they had no more than ordinary relationship with Salami”.

REVEALED! Why Mimiko lied about collecting money from Tinubu *How he begged and rolled on the floor

Perhaps Segun Mimiko of Ondo State was banking on the fact that it was unlikely for the strong man of Lagos Politics, Ahmed Bola Tinubu to openly confirm that he spent heavy amount of money on him, this informed his open denial and direct challenge to Tinubu to tell the public whether he gave him money.
Usually, politicians would not take up such challenge, preferring to lick their wound silently. But Jagaban is no ordinary politician. Yesterday, he not only confirmed that he gave huge sums of money to Mimiko but that the latter begged and was rolling on the floor when he badly needed help. This account goes on to confirm that Segun Mimiko is an unapologetic serial betrayal of trust, a politics-at-all-cost personality and a lying politician who believes that the end justifies the means.
Sunday Aborisade of the Punch put up a concise report on the Tinubu’s confirmation.
REPORT BY  SUNDAY ABORISADE
Former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu has claimed that he supported Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko with millions of pounds in cash during the legal battle to reclaim his mandate after the 2007 election in the state.
Tinubu made the allegation during the Redemption Rally organised by the Action Congress of Nigeria in Akure to mobilise support for the party’s candidate in Saturday’s governorship election, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu.
The ACN leader said Mimiko was economical with the truth when he claimed that he did not receive money from him while the battle lasted.
Tinubu, who quoted copiously from the Holy Bible while addressing the people, insisted that he gave money and vehicles to Mimiko as part of his contribution.
He said, “Mimiko claimed that I did not spend money when he had problems with his mandate, this is not true. It is a lie. He came to me and begged me to support him, rolling on the ground.
“He (Mimiko) claimed that Wole Olanipekun was there when we were planning the strategy, this is not correct. Rotimi Akeredolu was among the lawyers we organised for him.
“He collected money from me. I spent millions of pounds sterling but he betrayed me. It was Yemi Osinbajo who travelled to Israel and other countries to arrange the experts that helped him prosecute the case.
“People warned me not to help him because of his antecedents of being a serial traitor. He betrayed Adebayo Adefarati, Olusegun Agagu, and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo among others, but I still helped him.
“Mimiko has called me a godfather, yes, I am a positive godfather and even, god fatherism is biblical and that is why Christians refer to God as their father.
“I play god-fatherism in the South-West for the good of our people. My godfatherism is for progress, it is for mentoring. I have brought development to Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Edo and Ogun states and the people are better for it.”
Tinubu condemned the mega school concept of the Mimiko administration, saying the schools were not meant for a low populated state like Ondo.
He said, “Mega school is not meant for Ondo. You don’t have the population. The mega school concept can only work in places like Lagos which is densely populated.
“Mimiko is just deceiving you with his mega school idea. It cannot work. We build millennium schools in Lagos where we have thousands of children. What you have in Ondo is a deceit.”
The ACN National Leader said Ondo would lose a lot if the people refused to put an ACN government in place through their votes on Saturday.

President Jonathan’s home submerged by flood (PHOTO)

The country home of President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday bowed to flood in Otuoke community of Bayelsa State, prompting the state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, to order the immediate evacuation of the residents of the community.
Leadership gathered that the flood, which has swallowed more than half of the community in the last few weeks, eventually moved towards the residence of the president, submerging a large part of the house. Community sources said the kinsmen to the president came to the rescue of the first family and salvaged some of the property of the first family.
Assessing the level of damage during his visit to the affected areas, the governor through his deputy, Rear Admiral Gborubiogha John Jonah (rtd), said the governor has directed the evacuation of the affected area to one of the relief camps located in the community.
The evacuation, according to him, became imperative in view of the hardship that victims of the flood had been subjected to, and, to avert the outbreak of epidemics, adding that the state government was taking the pro active measure with the rising level of water.
Commiserating with the victims, the governor assured that no stone would be left unturned at ensuring that the victims bounced back to life, especially those that had lost their means of livelihood to flooding.
He said the government had ordered importation of seedlings in readiness for the next planting season in order to guide against shortage of food.
It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan during his visit assured the people, especially the victims of government support in alleviating their hardship.
Investigations revealed that about 85 percent of Bayelsa State has been submerged by the rampaging flood.

Exposed! INEC appoints Mimiko’s supporters, Odumakin, others, independent observers

By The Liberty Report

Mrs. Joe Odumakin has long association with Tunde Bakare and other known vocal supporters of Segun Mimiko
Mrs. Joe Odumakin has long association with Tunde Bakare and other known vocal supporters of Segun Mimiko
Is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) an impartial umpire? It does not seem so as recent information has confirmed that INEC has appointed Odumakin, yes the same Mrs. Joe Odumakin, a closet supporter of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as an independent election observer for the October 20 election in Ondo State. A close family friend of Mrs. Odumakin confirmed to citizen reporters that Mrs. Odumakin has been quietly working to promote the second term ambition of governor Mimiko and wonder if it makes sense to appoint her an independent observer. Naturally, her observation and report would be tailored to suit her preference.
The family friend also confirmed that Mrs. Odumakin’s husband, Yinka Odumakin, has in fact openly declared his unalloyed support for the Mimiko second term project on several occasion. The Liberty Report has one of such declarations and it is contained in THIS INTERVIEW.
ACN REACTS
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has however accused INEC of engaging in gross partisanship that is capable of ruining the credibility of the October 20 poll.
In a press statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party specifically accused INEC of colluding with the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state to remove from the list of accredited election  observers certain groups they deemed not favourably disposed towards their plan to manipulate the election while retaining those sent by Mimiko.
Despite the national role that the Coalition of Democrats for Election Reforms (CODER) has played as experienced election observer, INEC de-accredited it  on the basis of a petition by LP and replaced CODER with Mrs. Joe Odumakin’s Women Arise.
According to the ACN, ”The partisanship of Women Arise as far as the Ondo State election is concerned is glaring as the group is led by Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, wife of Mr. Yinka Odumakin who has publicly declared his support for Governor Olusegun Mimiko in the forthcoming election. Mr. Odumakin is also a known ally of Pastor Tunde Bakare, who has also declared his support for the incumbent governor.
”Another partisan group that has been accredited by INEC to monitor the election is the Rights Monitoring Group (RMG), led by one Femi Aduwo, a visible supporter for the Labour Party in the Social Media. And while each Election Observer group is allowed a maximum of 100 observers, the RMG has been given over 1,500 accreditation tags by this Unit, with the alleged plan that these tags will be utilised by LP thugs who will pose as RMG election observers on October 20.
”It is worth noting that in the midst of all this, CODER has yet to be formally communicated as to why it was de-accredited. Neither was it given the opportunity to defend itself against whatever was contained in the LP petition that INEC relied upon to de-accredit it. This is far from what  is expected from a supposedly-unbiased umpire.
”Against the foregoing, we are compelled to call on INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who may not be privy to these shenanigans, to investigate the activities of this Unit which are capable of ruining the credibility of the electoral body, and act decisively and appropriately.
”The same Unit is said to have compromised INEC by colluding with some political parties in past elections as it reportedly supplied thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with accreditation tags for the 2010 governorship election in Anambra State, for instance.
“The fake election observers were subsequently arrested by security agents and the case is pending at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka, with  no attempt made to prosecute the offenders,” ACN said.
The party also urged the presidency, security agencies, all Nigerians and members of the diplomatic community to take note of the gross partisanship of this Unit and the impact its nefarious activities may have on efforts to ensure that the Ondo State Governorship election is free, fair and credible.
It also demanded the immediate de-accreditation of both Women Arise and the RMG as Election Observers for the  poll, in the interest of justice and fair play.
Meanwhile the president of Women Arise who is purportedly leading an independent election observer group in Ondo State has resorted to gutter language in her response to the ACN petition.
She said “It is unbecoming of a person of Alhaji Mohammed’s caliber to spew a patent lie that CODER was replaced by the Election Monitoring and Observation Unit of INEC with Women Arise.
In her words, she calls the ACN leaders twisted minds and blackmailers.  “It is only a twisted mind that could manufacture such a low-quality propaganda to run a cheap blackmail.”
The would-be independent observer went further to state that “The ACN spokesman also betrays a medieval mind still shackled by feudalism and emirate disposition when he wrote “The partisanship of Women Arise as far as the Ondo election is concerned is glaring as the group is led by Dr. Joe-Okei Odumakin, wife of Mr. ‘Yinka Odumakin who has publicly declared his support for Governor Olusegun Mimiko in the forthcoming elections. Mr. Odumakin is also a known ally of Pastor Tunde Bakare who has also declared his support for the incumbent governor”.
“And this quote is from a supposed legal mind! It only shows that Alhaji Mohammed and whatever he represents still have a stone-age view of women as chattels who are to be used without independent thoughts and actions. And perhaps to be kept in purdah!
“The Women Arise is an independent organisation with a board made up of eminent Nigerians and thousands of members across the country.
“It is, therefore, puerile and crude to say that the opinion of the husband of its president dictates its mandate. Such view can only be held by those who carry low opinion of womenfolk and see them as cheer leaders who should have a few naira notes thrown at after they have been used for election campaigns.
“Integrity is alien to some folks!”
Why such venom by Mrs. Odumakin over a simple role as an independent election observer? Naturally, if your motive is clean, if any of the parties says she or he does not want you, that should put an end to it.
INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION
Independent investigation by Citizen Reporters however confirmed that Mrs. Odumakin was only being clever by half. Many of her friends confirmed that like any such organizations in Nigeria, she is actually the alpha and omega and does whatever she likes. The boards are mere decorations to fulfil CAC legal purposes. Our sources ask that we put an open challenge to Mrs. Odumakin to present list of all her activities and funding with complete 5 years statements of accounts of the organization for third party scrutiny.
Our sources also confirmed that her husband is in fact both directly and indirectly actively involved in her Women Arise work and that he even suggested him to Mimiko for the current Ondo State INEC observer role.
Our source promised to shock us with documentary evidence if required.
OUR POSITION
The Liberty Report is not interested in the details of Mrs. Odumakin’s Women Arise for now. We however have enough public knowledge information that is sufficient to stop her as an independent election observer.
1. She confirmed that she is (or at least was) in romance with the ACN, having been asked to join their protest in the past. This confirms that she and the ACN people know one another very well
2. She is a closet sopporter of Mimiko who is a party to the October election
3. She is the wife of one of the most vocal supporters of Mimiko, Mr. Yinka Odumakin
4. Her response to ACN accusation was laden with so much venom that made us conclude that there is something beyond the ordinary as far as this issue of independent observation is concerned.
5. She is positively not independent and the people she has assembled to work with her cannot be independent.
These 5 points are sufficient for any reasonable human right activist that genuinely wants to promote democracy to reverse herself.

Kogi Assembly removes Speaker, deputy, others

All the principal officers were removed

The Kogi State House of Assembly has impeached the Speaker of the Assembly, Abdullahi Bello. Reports indicate that the deputy speaker, and 10 other principal officers were also removed from office.
It is not clear how many lawmakers were at Tuesday morning’s sitting as the 25-member House was not set to sit until Thursday. The lawmakers also prevented staff and observers from witnessing their sitting.
Mr. Bello has reportedly rejected the impeachment saying Tuesday’s sitting is illegal.
The Speaker has been having a running battle with some lawmakers who had been plotting to remove him from office. It is believed that the anti-speaker lawmakers are doing the bidding of the state governor, Idris Wada.

Tension in Bakassi as boundary demarcation begins

Another round of tension is building in the Bakassi Peninsula and Cross River State, following the decision by the Joint Technical Team on Bakassi Demarcation in conjunction with the National Boundary Commission, to undertake the final physical demarcation of the boundary between Nigeria and Cameroon.
The demarcation is based on the International Court of Justice ruling ceding the area to Nigeria’s neighbour. This came as the Senate said it will not delist Bakassi territory from the Nigerian constitution.
The unease in the border area of Nigeria is said to have heightened following the receipt of a notice by the NBC to the Cross River State Government asking it to prepare for the final physical boundary delineation between Nigeria and Cameroon based on the new reality of ceding Bakassi to Cameroon.
The letter, which was sighted by Vanguard, last night, was written by the NBC on September 17, 2012 with reference No NBC.SEC.7/S.2/Vol.XV/43 and addressed to Governor Liyel Imoke, notifying him of the decision of the agency to carry out the assignment and asking him to support the operation.
The communication was endorsed by S.M. Isa, a surveyor in the NBC, on behalf of the Director General of the Federal Government parastatal.
The demarcation, which is scheduled to start on October 19, is expected to be concluded on November 11 and is being undertaken by the Joint Technical Team of the Sub-Commission on Demarcation corresponding to some sectors in Cross River State.
According to NBC, the assignment involves ‘Pillar site assessment of the Thalweg of the downstream sector of Akwa Yafe River to the first Point of the Maritime boundary by the Joint Technical Team, JTT, of the sub-commission.
In the main, the JTT seeks to physically trace the monuments and other landmarks that will serve as the boundary between the two states on the Nigerian side of the border with Bakassi.
It was gathered that the JTT of the sub-commission on Demarcation has already assessed the boundary.
The decision to carry out the demarcation of the Nigerian side in Bakassi, is said to have been reached during the last meeting of the Nigerian-Cameroon Mixed Commission at Yaounde between August 30 and 31, this year.
The meeting had noted that since the commission had assessed the boundary Pillar ‘V’ in the Lake Chad in Borno State to the upstream sector of River Akwa Yafe in Cross River State, on the Nigerian side of the boundary, preparatory to the actual pillar placement, it should continue with pillar site identification in the downstream sector of Akwa Yafe River.
Team to be based in Calabar
The tripartite team of experts for the demarcation, which is drawn from Nigeria, Cameroon and the United Nations, is to be based in Calabar, the Cross River State capital throughout the duration of the demarcation.
However, it was gathered that the team was worried that the exercise might not be carried out successfully without some violence from the aggrieved natives of Bakassi, who feel betrayed by the Federal Government’s refusal to seek a review of the Bakassi judgment.
In a bid to checkmate any attack, the NBC has pleaded with Governor Imoke to provide the team with necessary logistics and security support to carry out the task.
Among other things, the NBC wants the governor to direct his local government commissioner and traditional institutions to mobilise and sensitise the aggrieved Bakassi people particularly those living along the areas to be demarcated to give maximum support and cooperation to the visiting team.
The commission also pleaded with the governor to assign his health commissioner to send a medical doctor to go with the team throughout the duration of the assignment.
In addition, the commission has requested for adequate riot and marine police, State Security Service, SSS, Customs and Immigrations personnel to accompany them throughout the period of the demarcation to prevent any attack.
Governor Imoke was also requested to ask the Surveyor General of his state to represent the state on the team and to give all necessary assistance towards the accomplishment of the task.
“Your Excellency, I wish to, on behalf of the sub-committee on the Demarcation, express our profound gratitude to your administration for the support and numerous assistance accorded us that have been facilitating the successful outcome of our activities in Cross River State and the nation in general,” the NBC concluded in its letter to the governor.
But natives of Bakassi and top political leaders in the state are unhappy over the latest move to demarcate the disputed area on the grounds that it would mark the final takeover of Bakassi.
The natives were angry and disappointed that the boundary demarcation would finally give them out to a country they do not want to belong.
There were indications last night that some of the aggrieved persons were considering a court order to stop the Mixed Commission from carrying out the final demarcation of their border with Cameroun until all wrongs and adversities visited on them were addressed and resolved.
But they were also cautious about the guidelines of the Mixed Commission which stipulates that ‘the JTT regularly alternates their field operations headquarters between the two countries’.
“That if conditions in one country are not conducive for the JTT to function, it is at liberty to relocate across their common frontier to the other country to operate from there for the purpose of completing the demarcation”.
Those who were set for trouble are reported to have been disarmed by the guidelines.
It was reliably gathered that the natives might resort to a court order to stop the work of the JTT.
The Bakassi natives are angry that the Federal Government opted not to appeal the ruling of the ICJ, which ceded the area to Cameroon.
The Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, had said that Nigeria did not have any fresh fact to warrant the appeal and that it would be diplomatically damaging to do so.
By midnight of October 10, Bakassi became a territory of Cameroon.
