7 healthy habits for a great sex life

By Katherine Lee

Sexual arousal and function is dependent on a healthy cardiovascular system and good overall health, so both men and women can improve their sex lives by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Healthy habits and lifestyle changes can increase libido, improve your sex life, and possibly help address issues such as erectile dysfunction and female sexual dysfunction. Sexual arousal and function is dependent on a healthy cardiovascular system and good overall health, so both men and women can improve their sex lives by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

No. 1: Quit Smoking

The nicotine in tobacco is a potent vasoconstrictor. It narrows the blood vessels, which can lead to damage in the arteries and veins. The small blood vessels in the penis are especially susceptible to damage – thus smoking can have a negative effect on your sex life. But there is something you can do about it: Quitting smoking can improve your sex life and increase your libido.

No. 2: Exercise

Regular exercise can help both men and women improve their sex lives and increase libido. Routine exercise keeps the cardiovascular system healthy, important for libido and erections. Exercise can also increase levels of sex hormones as well as endorphins, help women feel better, and improve body image, according to Jennifer Berman, MD, a urologist and expert in female sexual medicine and director of The Berman Women’s Wellness Center in Beverly Hills, Calif.

No. 3: Reduce Stress

Stress management techniques such as meditation and yoga can also help improve your sex life. “Stress is a silent killer — worse in some ways than heart disease or even cancer,” says Dr. Berman. “It’s self-induced, it ages your body, and is gradual.” Stress also raises cortisol and adrenaline levels, which can interfere with sex response hormones. “Healing hormones are released during meditation,” says Berman.

No. 4: Get More Sleep

Lack of sleep has been linked to erectile dysfunction and female sexual response problems. As with stress reduction methods, beneficial hormones are released during sleep, says Berman. “If sleep is interrupted by apnea, stress, medication, and so on, that affects brain chemistry as well as mood.” Getting enough rest can help increase your libido and improve your sex life.

No. 5: Limit Alcohol Consumption

In moderation, red wine and other alcohol may have some benefits. Drinking can be liberating, and some alcohol (like red wine) contains flavonoids, which may help protect against certain diseases like heart disease and some cancers. But in excess, alcohol is a drug that is a depressant. And it can exacerbate anxiety, says Berman. Keeping alcohol consumption to a moderate level is recommended. This means one drink a day for women, two for men.

No. 6: Consume Less Caffeine

Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, which means it may have a negative effect on blood flow. But there is some evidence that chocolate, which contains some caffeine, can have a positive effect on libido. While there is no definitive proof linking caffeine to erectile dysfunction or female sexual arousal disorder, doctors do know that caffeine can restrict blood vessels, so keeping consumption to moderate levels may be the best practice when it comes to libido and a healthy sex life.

No. 7: Eat Healthfully

Eating a diet rich in colorful, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables is great for good overall health, which in turn can help increase your libido and improve your sex life. The Mediterranean diet, based on healthy fruits and vegetables and foods with omega-3 fatty acids, is excellent for good sexual health, says Berman. She adds that supplements such as a multivitamin and antioxidants like CoQ10 and lycopene (which is thought to help prevent prostate cancer) may also help boost libido.. Be sure to talk to your doctor about any supplements so you can find the best choices for you.

Obasanjo slams Jonathan’s response to Boko Haram

Obasanjo slams Jonathan’s response to Boko Haram
Ex-President defends Odi invasion
Akinyemi advocates conference

It was meant to be a lecture in honour of a distinguished pastor celebrating his 40th anniversary on the pulpit. But the forum turned out to be more; it became a podium for a blistering criticism of the Jonathan administration.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo lashed out at the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration for what he called its slow handling of the Boko Haram insurgency.
He also accused the administration and that of his successor, the late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua, of being soft on corruption.
Boko Haram’s gunmen have killed thousands of people in the North, especially in Borno and Yobe states – the epicentre of their activities.
Many schools have been burnt down. Many churches have been attacked by suicide bombers as the sect intensifies its violent activities.
Obasanjo, who was instrumental to the enthronement of the late Yar’Adua and Jonathan, said the sect’s activities would have been nipped in the bud had drastic steps been taken at the initial stage of Boko Haram’s insurgency – as he did in 1999 when he deployed troops in Odi community, Bayelsa State.
He spoke in Warri as the moderator of a public lecture by former External Affairs Minister Prof Bolaji Akinyemi in honour of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, who is marking his 40th anniversary as a pastor.
The former president accused his successors of allowing the Boko Haram scourge to become a national security problem.
He said: “My fear is that when you have a sore and you don’t attend to it early enough, it festers and becomes very bad. Don’t leave a problem that can be bad unattended.”
Reflecting on the crisis at Odi, Obasanjo said:
“I attended to a problem that I saw; I sent soldiers. They were killed, 19 of them (were) decapitated. If I had allowed that to continue, I would not have the authority to send security anywhere again. I attended to it.
“If you say you do not want a strong leader, who can have all the characteristics of a leader, including the fear of God, then, you have a weak leader and the rest of the problem is yours,” he added.
In his reaction to comments on rising corruption by public office holders in Akinyemi’s paper, Obasanjo blamed the weakened anti-corruption fight on his successor.
“At one time, they said the fear of (Mallam Nuhu) Ribadu, former Chairman of the Economic and Economic Crimes Commission (EFCC), is the beginning of wisdom. Then, what happened to Ribadu? And there was no longer any wisdom,” he added.
He hinted that the faltering fight against corruption had made it impossible to recover an outstanding $1billion from the cash stolen by the late General Sani Abacha and his family.
Obasanjo and Akinyemi expressed divergent views on the convocation of a national conference as the way forward for the nation’s unity and peace.
The professor of International Relations and Diplomacy suggested the convocation of a national conference to allow all interest groups the opportunity to express their views on national issues.
He said: “The Nigerian elite, political, economic and religious, must get together and fashion out a grand consensus. Let me make it clear that I am not advocating a consensus to loot the national treasury – that is already taking place.
“For us to have a consensus, we should have a national conference to air our views and grievances. At the end of the day, we should be able to agree (on the way forward).”
But Obasanjo faulted the call, saying: “We have been on this conference forever.”
“We can never get all Nigerians to a room and say let’s have a conference; we will still get representatives and when you finish, there will still be those who will not be satisfied. I may not be satisfied, and if I am not satisfied, should I not be able to vent my feeling and say I am not satisfied? If I can vent my feelings and say I am not satisfied, then I am now satisfied.”
The two eminent Nigerians also disagreed on the application of Federal Character, which Akinyemi said, “dispenses with experience and emphasises the turn-by-turn syndrome, irrespective of experience or qualification”.
He lamented that choices of vice-chancellors, bishops, judges and others are now subject to federal character, adding: “Just last week, there was an episode, disgraceful by all account, that took place within the judiciary. “
But Obasanjo said: “There is nothing intrinsically wrong in federal character, if we have decided that we really want to weave this country together.
“The problem is how it is applied because if you are looking for Federal character with merit, you will get it anywhere in Nigeria.”
There was however a consensus on leadership. Both men expressed the need for a strong leadership that will build the Nigeria dreamt of by the founding fathers.

Nigerian ‘Pastorpreneurs’, How Christ-like? By Theophilus Ilevbare

By Theophilus Ilevbare
Nigeria is home to some of the largest churches, fastest growing denominations and some of the wealthiest pastorpreneurs the world over. No surprise we’re considered the most religious people on earth. This tag, like our crude oil, is fast becoming our bane as a Nation. The opulence of these church founders has been achieved through compulsory and somewhat forceful tithing, seed sowing and constantly skinning of their flock and taking its milk.
Prosperity preachers they’ve become, relegating salvation and righteous Christian living to the backburner. No surprise that our thieving politicians have found a safe haven in churches, where they share stolen loot with pastorpreneurs in return for fervent prayers to turn away the prying eyes of relevant anti-corruption agencies. So much dust has been raised in the past when stolen funds become seeds in God’s house without ascertaining how it is acquired. Our pastorpreneurs just don’t care!
The Pastorpreneur is part CEO and part pastor and they are considered Christian businessmen. It is a concept that combines business practices, like that of an entrepreneur, with religion. An entrepreneur unites all means of production to get products for profiteering, constantly shifting economic resources out of an area of lower and into another of higher productivity and greater yield. So have the Pastors of mega churches turned.
They use members and workers of the church as a means to attain their unholy ambition, while their wives and children are made to function in strategic church positions to ensure seeds sown are properly remitted, constantly changing their ministerial headquarters from one megacity to another to gain more affluent members.
Today, the work of the ministry has been turned into a moneymaking venture. Prosperity preachers who never fail to emphasize tithing at every opportunity. They tell you if you want to be blessed beyond measure give beyond one-tenth of your earnings, some even ask you to sow your life! Unsuspecting members empty their pockets and when in dire need of a miracle their bank account, almost going broke thereafter, while the already super rich pastorpreneur lives like a royal. The sensibilities of the average Nigerian churchgoer have almost been washed away by the antics of these so called-pastors. They inordinately compete among themselves; who has got the biggest mega church auditorium. They move around in siren-blaring elaborate motorcades, splashing thousands of dollars on posh cars, purchase, maintenance and cabin crew of private jet(s), multimillion naira investments across all major sectors of the economy, typical of accomplished entrepreneurs.
Though seldom, politicians, when in church, are ushered to the front row, given all sorts of titles and mundane recognition, rolling out drums as they step out for thanksgiving. One begins to wonder if it is a political rally.
It is un-scriptural and sad that members sow seeds into mega church projects like elite secondary schools and universities which on completion eighty percent of the same members who sowed cannot afford to pay tuition of such schools in this or another lifetime! How they’ve been so blind folded and tricked overtime remains a mystery to close observers.
Scripture succinctly noted that Believers of today were first called Christians in Antioch because they possessed the very nature of Christ. The way and manner they went about their business was mirrored in the exemplary life of Jesus Christ, modesty, humility and righteousness were his watchword. Christ’s early ministry from birth to ascension was characterised by certain tenets, which he admonished his disciples and followers alike to adhere. ‘Set your affections on things above’ the Bible says, but the very Men who are supposed to lead the flock of Christ by example now milk them dry. Messages of salvation, holiness, and baptism by fire have now been left for the ‘small boys in the ministry’, those who have not attained mega status. Our supposed ambassadors of Christ have joined our thieving politicians or so it seems.
How many of the mega churches that are worth billions of naira have responded to the victims of the recent flood disaster in 14 states? Churches don’t pay taxes, if they now make billions and make big time investments, how about social responsibility? How do mega churches in Nigeria contribute to the development of their immediate community, touching the lives of the needy? Isn’t that Christ-like? How about making investments in areas that will have a direct impact on church members? A friend had the idea that three mega churches in Nigeria can come together and start an agricultural revolution by so doing creating employment, putting food on the table of the have-nots and giving the agricultural sector a shot in the arm. Won’t Christ up there be impressed?

Two sisters assault 22-year-old man and share the video via Blackberry Messenger

A pair of cruel sisters have been jailed after they subjected a man described as a “vulnerable adult” to a degrading sexual assault and sent photos of the abuse to friends on a BlackBerry Messenger.
Twisted Yasmine, 19, and Whitney Notice, 20, lured the man back to their flat after meeting him over social media.
After plying the 22-year-old victim with cider, they threatened him with a fake handgun, forced him to strip and demanded he perform sex acts.
Police were alerted to an image the day after and specialists from the Public Protection Unit were able to track the images to Yasmine’s phone.
Birmingham Crown Court heard how the pair sexually humiliated him purely for their own wicked amusement.
Yasmine was sentenced to seven years and two months behind bars, while Whitney was jailed for five years and four months.
Detective Constable Emma Fennon said: “They targeted the man with the express intention of humiliating him for their own pleasure. They even recorded the abuse and boasted about their actions to friends.
“In the video the man, who is a vulnerable adult, can be seen cowering, fearing for his life, whilst the girls are heard laughing in the background.
“We believe this may not have been the first time they have carried out such abuse as other images discovered on their phones suggest there could be more victims.
“If anyone has suffered such abuse they should report it to police. The matter will be dealt with sensitively by officers specially trained to support victims.”
Both sisters admitted assault, false imprisonment, and causing a person to engage in sexual activity on February 3 this year.
Whitney also pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm.
The sisters were ordered to register as sex offenders for life.

The Nigerian Church Is Losing It's Purpose By Ayobami Oyalowo

Mrs. Oritsejafor's limo
By Ayobami Oyalowo
There has been a lot of tittle-tattle lately as well as so many discordant tunes on the propriety or otherwise of jets and gifts to pastors and men of God. The debates have been loud and raucous with so many people speaking from a position of little or no information. A lot of emotive vibes and outrage, for or against the perceived or real manipulations by men who supposedly have been given charge over the souls of millions, has become public fodder. Everyone appears to be venting their spleen wherever you turn.
Hosea 4:7-9
New King James Version (NKJV)
7
“The more they increased,
The more they sinned against Me;
I will change their glory into shame.
8
They eat up the sin of My people;
They set their heart on their iniquity.
9
And it shall be: like people, like priest.
So I will punish them for their ways,
And reward them for their deeds.
But what exactly should we do or say? Supporters of ostentatious and obviously manipulative men of the cloak are quick to put the critics in check by quoting “touch not mine anointed” lines ostensibly to show that men of “God” are above reproach and as such “lesser” men have no right whatsoever to criticize or condemn perceived wrong doings of these high men of “God.” But is this the case? Are these men truly above reproach? Is it biblical for the “under shepherd” to feed fat on the flock while the flock groans and hopes for a better day? All these we shall examine in this piece. Let me appeal that this treatise may exceed the usual length allowed for articles on this blog as it comes laden with supporting Bible passages, but I assure you, it will be worth your while. Take a sip of water and follow me patiently.
And plead with your boss at work to learn from it as well if he frowns at you. Who knows, your boss may have unwittingly contributed to purchasing a Limo, Hummer or Private Jet for his Pastor lately.
Christianity was first brought to the shores of Nigeria by the European missionaries in the early 1800s. When they came, they built hospitals and schools. In fact, many Nigerians aged late thirties and above, were products of missionary schools, which were either free or came with negligible or paltry school fees. The early missionaries and churches in Nigeria were predicated on love and social services to their immediate communities. Many people in the age range I quoted above got quality education and even health care, courtesy of missionaries and churches.
But fast forward to the present day. Church members are coerced to part with money they barely have, with either a promise of God blessing them in return or with stern warnings of perpetual poverty or even threatened with the danger of hell if they refuse to give “cheerfully”. God’s blessing in church today is now for sale and even your offering must be spoken to, so that it can bring forth plenty harvest.
(remember our local priests “babalawo” have a culture of asking clients to rub their bodies with monies and ask for whatever they wish for).
As a matter of fact, a particular church I know, a few years ago had a special offering called ‘dominion jet offering’, where adherents were made to donate towards the “ministry’s” jet only for the jet to be converted for the use of the self styled Bishop later. *My lips are sealed*
In the course of my research, I discovered that a teacher’s son in a secondary school of one of these various prosperity promising centers, who lives in the church enclave, could not afford to send his son to the school, as a teacher and also amember of the church. His son was rather sent to school in a nearby town.
The modern Nigerian church tasks it’s members to donate towards various projects such as universities and elitist secondary schools, but curiously, the poorer members of such prosperity centers can neither send their wards or kids to such schools, neither do the churches have a program to cater for the poor amongst their flock.
Unlike the early missionaries who accommodated both the rich and poor in their schools, it is no longer business as usual for the poor. You either sow and get rich so that your children can also benefit from the schools built by the church you attend or find a lesser alternative, while hoping for a better day! The Church has become a class conscious body.
The passage in Act 4:34-35 which Reads: “(34) Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, (35) and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.” has been totally ignored. In Nigeria’s contrivances of prosperity churches, it is survival of the fittest, elimination of the “poor” or unfit. How wonderful, won’t you say? No longer are we our brother’s keeper. Like 50 Cent, we have resolved in churches to get rich or die trying.
We have been told that prosperity is a sign of God’s favor to his own people, but after reading and studying the lives of great men of God– men who brought great revivals in their time– I had to ask if Jonathan Edwards, a man who preached and thousands wept to the altar in one day, yet he wasn’t rich, or Smith Wiggleswort, a plumber whom God used to heal many sick and raised a lot of dead men, yet wasn’t stupendously rich, were missing a trick. Tozer, John Wesley etc were great men of God, who neither built castles nor owned the choicest properties in their time, but they made such differences in the body of Christ so much so that till this day, their works still speak for them. Unlike our spirito-christian magicians, these men lived simple lives, but turned many around towards righteous and holy living. Their time was termed the period of the great revival in history.
Severally we have been reprimanded to “touch not mine anointed” but is this the correct application of this scripture? In which context was this phrase used? It is found in Psalm 105:15 and was repeated in 1Chronicles 16:22. That passage was written to praise the works of God when he took out Israel out of Egypt and saved them from harm, even though they were few. It was never about a pastor or a leader, it was written to praise God in taking care of a called out people. Anointed vessels are men who allow God to do his bidding through them.
Note that those people who must do his bidding must be “called out” and what is the “church”? It simply means “the called out ones”. Therefore that Passage can also mean “touch not the church”. Do NOT be deceived, it was never written to protect or immune “penterascality” or ‘pastopreneurs’ from criticism. It was written as a mark or seal of God’s protection upon his chosen ones.
The concept of giving and speaking to your money to work for you is another strange doctrine that has been introduced to make unsuspecting and unlearned Christians to part with their money without question.
Several times they have called this subtle extortion mechanism: ‘seed’, claiming the passage of seed time and harvest in Genesis 8:22. But God was not using seed figuratively. It was a definite and correct use. In fact he said; the summer, winter etc shall not cease. You don’t pay for God’s blessings. Obed edom was blessed in 2 Samuel 6:10-12 not because he paid God aspecial seed but because the presence of God dwelt within him and his household.
Unlike the short-cut pay and receive theology of our modern day pastors, God’s blessings dwell securely in his presence. It is better to live holy and have God on your side, than give plenty, while continuing in sin.
There is nothing wrong in showering your pastors with gifts, but let’s look at some biblical examples of men that God used mightily. Were they louts, who busied themselves with soliciting gifts or were they men who had reasonable sources of income? Amos was a great prophet but hear him in Amos 7:14-15:
14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and agatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, ‘Go, prophesy unto my people Israel’.
And let’s look at Paul, one of the greatest apostles who ever lived. Acts 18:1-3:
18 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
He was a tent maker. He HAD A JOB. He was no lout neither was he a beggar or a manipulator. His hands provided for his needs.
I wish to bring a few scriptures to light in Philippians 3:18-19 18
(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
and 2 Timothy 3:1-2 3:
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
It is very clear that we are approaching the last days and like Jesus said, “shall I find faith on earth”? It a question we all should ponder on. Ask yourself, what is the purpose of your Christian faith? Is it to serve God or marmon? Is amassing worldly cash and acquiring worldly goods the reason Christ died on the cross? Do not get me wrong, being prosperous in not a sin, but it is written in 2Timothy 2:4:
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
And in Colosians 2:9, we read:
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead, bodily.
If God is genuinely sought, he will be found. Having the presence of God dwelling in you is a guarantee of his fulness. The rate at which wrong doctrines are taught and imbibed is alarming and this is a pointer to alarming biblical illiteracy levels among Christians. As God said, ‘like people like priests’.
1Peter 4:17 17:
“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?”.
What is the gospel of God? I doubt if it means amassing wealth or accumulating worldly goods. Pastors must be careful in fleecing the flock as it is written that The souls of those in their care will be required of them.
Our peculiar situation shows clearly that there are fundamental flaws in the teachings of the church as written in our opening scripture. Hosea, as quoted above, suggests that as the priests (pastors, bishops, archbishops, General overseers etc) are increasing, so is iniquity and sin on the rise. Looking at Nigeria today, we have a church in almost every corner, yet the crime and immorality rates are rising exponentially.
It is time for the men of GOD to face their true calling which is preaching the gospel. But if they persist in milking the flock, God said he will use even stones, to achieve his aims, if men refuse to do his bidding.
Study the scriptures and be diligent. Do not let a man created in ‘like-passions’ pull a wool over your eyes in the name of God.
A lie can travel very fast in time, but in one swift moment, the truth will pursue, overtake and annihilate it. There is too much hot air emanating from our pulpits, but where is the fire of revival?

Vice-Consul reveals two reasons Nigerians are denied visas to US

Vice-Consul, United States Consulate, Lagos, Mr. Christopher Richardson, says many applicants are refused American visas because they have not visited other countries.
Richardson spoke at a seminar on the ‘American Visa Regime: the role of lawyers’ organized by the Immigration Lawyers Forum in Lagos on Tuesday.
He said, “The majority of the visa applicants prefer the US as their first outing. This creates doubt, especially when the applicant has not visited any other countries before.”
Richardson also said applicants were also rejected visas because of the kind of answers they give to test questions during interviews.
He said, “When a question, such as ‘do you have a relation in the US?’ Most often, they are quick to say ‘yes’, which of course, is in order.
“Such an answer creates doubt that since the person has a relation, there is every tendency that the person may not want to come back. So visas can be rejected on that ground.”
He said Nigerians were among the countries with highest number of visa rejections.
The Chairman, ILAF, Titus Ajijola, said the seminar was designed to enhance the protection of migrant rights.
He said, “Key strategies of the project are awareness raising, knowledge and skills improvement on the rules, as well as rights and obligations of migrants to encourage respect for the rights of migrants.”
He said ILAF was designed to educate the general public on immigration matters
