Asari Dokubo slams Jonathan, accuses him of losing focus

Asari Dokubo slams Jonathan, accuses him of losing focus
From IHEANACHO NWOSU, Abuja
Leader of Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF), Alhaji Mojadeed Asari Dokubo, yesterday slammed President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of derailing from the objective Nigerians voted him for. He said some greedy people who are both corrupt and ruthless cage Jonathan.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Dokubo claimed that politicians, who have hijacked President Jonathan were responsible for his quarrel with people and regions that brought him to power. He picked out the president’s rift with his predecessor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, as an example. According to him, it was wrong for Jonathan to quarrel with Obasanjo whom he said was his political benefactor.
He said: “President Goodluck Jonathan is surrounded by greedy people.” Dokubo explained that his reason for speaking out was because  “it will be unfair to keep quite in the face of impunity.” Insisting that it was a mark of ingratitude for Jonathan to strain his relationship with Obasanjo, he recalled that the former president helped Jonathan to rise from the position of a deputy governor to the Presidency. Dokubo accused him of not doing much to show that he is different from his predecessors.
He claimed that the president is sending a wrong signal about his person by allowing people of questionable characters to surround his government. He insisted that President Jonathan, by some of his policies and decisions, was far away from the people, adding that even Jonathan’s kinsmen have no access to him. He warned that people may be forced to revolt if the situation continues.
He said the implication of the continued poor performance of the government might be losing his second term bid, a development he said would be accepted by the South South. “The President has allowed himself to be imprisoned by some greedy individuals. His goodwill will soon go and that will affect his second term chances,” he said.

Extraordinay: Woman Delivered Of A Baby Boy After Performing Caesarean Section On Herself

A 40-year-old woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy after performing a Caesarean on herself using a kitchen knife, the International Journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics reported.
The woman’s operation was believed to be the first known case of a self-inflicted Caesarean in which both the mother and baby survived.
The unidentified woman who lived in a rural area of Mexico without electricity or running water stays eight hours from the nearest hospital.
The woman performed the operation when she could not deliver the baby on her own, having lost a previous baby due to labour complications.
Dr R Valle, of the Dr Manuel Velasco Suarez Hospital in San Pablo, Mexico, said: “She took three small glasses of hard liquor and, using a kitchen knife, sliced her abdomen in three attempts and delivered a male infant that breathed immediately and cried.”
Before she lost consciousness, the woman told one of her children to call a local nurse for help.
The local nurse stitched the wound with a sewing needle and cotton thread, before transferring the mother and baby to be treated by Dr. Valle and his colleagues at the nearest hospital.
“This case represents an unusual and extraordinary decision by a woman in labour who, unable to deliver herself spontaneously, and with no medical help or resources, decided to perform a caesarean section upon herself,” he said.
He added that a mother’s instinct to save her child can move a woman to perform extraordinary acts but said it would not have been necessary if adequate medical care had been available.
According to Professor James Walker, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds, he had heard of cases in the past where farmers had performed Caesareans on their wives after having previously carried out the operation on animals.
But he said it would not happen now. “In this country, there is virtually never a situation when an individual is totally isolated from medical care even in the most outlying areas.”
Dr. Valle believes the event would convince authorities of the importance of accessible healthcare.

Nurse Killed Baby By Botching Circumcision

A nurse has been found guilty of manslaughter after causing a baby’s death by botching his circumcision.
nurse
Grace Adeleye, 67, carried out the procedure on four-week-old Goodluck Caubergs at an address in Chadderton, Oldham, in April 2010. The boy bled to death before he could reach hospital the following day. Adeleye was found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence at Manchester Crown Court.
The nurse, who denied the charge, had told the jury she had done “more than 1,000″ circumcision operations without incident. The court heard that Adeleye and Goodluck’s parents were from Nigeria, where the circumcision of newborns is the tradition for Christian families. Adeleye, of Sarnia Court, Salford, was paid £100 to do the operation.
The jury was told that she carried out the procedure using a pair of scissors, forceps and olive oil and without anaesthetic. She had claimed there had been “no problem” when she left the infant and that his parents had been pleased with the operation.
However, the court heard that when Goodluck’s parents had changed his nappy several hours later, they had found a large amount of blood and phoned Adeleye, who had told them to redress the wound. Goodluck’s parents called an ambulance the following morning and he was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital, where he died a short time later.
A spokesman for NHS Oldham said had the family gone to the hospital and asked for a circumcision, “they would have been advised to go to an approved practitioner who would have charged £100, the same as Grace Adeleye”. Following the guilty verdict, Adeleye was bailed while pre-sentencing reports are prepared.
The Crown Prosecution Service’s Jane Wragg said the case “was not about the rights or wrongs of circumcision, but the grossly negligent way in which the procedure was undertaken”.”Goodluck Caubergs was a healthy little boy whose tragic death was wholly unnecessary,” she said.
“Goodluck died because the standard of care taken by Grace Adeleye in carrying out the circumcision fell far below the standard that should be applied.
“She also failed to inform his parents of the risks and possible complications, which ultimately led to his tragic death.”

800,000 Graduates Fight for 1,500 Jobs in INEC as PhD Holders Jostle for Graduate Slots

800,000 Graduates Fight for 1,500 Jobs in INEC as PhD Holders Jostle for Graduate Slots
No matter how our corrupt leaders at all levels in Nigeria try to pretend, the issue of unemployment and under-employment is a major problem, a big time bomb, waiting to exploded.
As you read this, about 800,000 graduates have submitted applications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking to be employed to fill only 1,500 available job slots in the commission.
INEC placed vacancy advertisements in newspapers on November 19, inviting applications for the positions of legal officers, system analysts, architects, engineers, estate officers and registration area officers on grade levels 07, 08 and 09.
The commission got more than they bargained for:
Only applicants with first degrees, Higher National Diplomas and National Certificate of Education (NCE) were invited to submit applications. However, several PhD and Master’s Degree holders also desperately need the available ‘mid-level’ jobs.
“In the first week alone, we had about 300,000 applications. We were alarmed. In fact there are PhD holders among the applicants; some of them have two master’s degrees. That is a reflection of the job situation in the country,” an official of INEC cried out.
Unfortunately for this our country men and woman, only 1,500 persons will be given jobs. Consequently, the remaining 798,500 will continue to swim in the unemployment market.
Hmmm….hope we won’t have armed robbers with PhD and Masters degrees in Nigeria very soon!
