There
was tension in Robiyan village, Abule bus stop, in Ifo local government
area, Ogun state today, following the tragic death of 7 family members.
Five of them were found dead in the house while four others who were
gasping for breath were rushed to the hospital for treatment, however
two of the four died before they could be treated.
As at the time our reporter got there, the bodies had been moved but
eye witnesses claimed that the bodies had foams in their mouths.
The deceased were identified as a 70-year old woman, her two sons and her grandchildren who were spending the holidays with her.
One of the witnesses Prophet Wale Adeoyo told DailyPost that the
family had embarked on a New Year feast the day before (Wednesday),
served neighbours, retired to bed happily only to be found dead today.
He said “we all had plenty to eat and drink…and they went to bed with
their Generator on. It was Mama’s daughter who raised the alarm at
around 7am today…she didn’t sleep in the house because she had to go to
supply her customers with fish, she returned this morning and sensed
danger when no one opened the door after knocking repeatedly. She then
shouted for help and we all came out, we had to break in and then we
found their dead bodies…”
Though, the cause of the sad incident is yet to be ascertained, one of
the village elders, popularly known as GA said “it is probably food
poison from their feast because they were found dead with foams in their
mouths when the door to the house was forced opened.”
A few others claimed they died as a result of the smoke they inhaled
from Generator fumes while others claim that it was a spiritual attack.
The Baale of the community, Kujore and policemen from Ayinla Police Station were at the scene.
Two of the victims were rushed to Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, while others were rushed to Ota General Hospital for treatment.
