Iyanya and manager in police trouble over N1.7 million performance fee

Kukere master Iyanya and his manager, Ubi Franklin, are trying to negotiate themselves out of police trouble.
The Police in Port Harcourt are on the trail of the duo, after they received the sum of N1.7 million from popular show organiser, Opa Williams. The fee was for Iyanya to perform at two Nite of a Thousand Laughter shows in Port Harcourt and Benin.
The singer missed both shows, even after travelling to Port Harcourt, along with rapper Olamide and comedian Bovi, on a flight paid for by the organisers.
“We were all disappointed, we waited in vain. As soon as Bovi announced he was not going to show up, everybody started leaving,” a guest who attended the event held at the Hotel Presidential said.
On Wednesday morning, policemen from the Mile 3 division invited both Iyanya and Franklin over the issue, which had be lodged by Opa Williams.
Franklin confirmed that he made himself available at the station.
“Yes I was at the Police Station this morning, we have decided to return all money paid to us, it’s not a problem,” Ubi-Franklin told NET.
He also gave his own account of what really happened.
“We were paid to attend and perform at the Benin and Port Harcourt shows but we missed both due to reasons beyond our control. We missed the Benin gig because we were in Ghana as at that time and we arrived pretty late for the PH gig. We however had issues with initial payment from the show organizers also.”

Nigeria may join global economic powers in 2030 – US

By EMMANUEL AZIKEN
Nigeria could join a handful of countries including China that would be pivotal in shaping the world’s economy by the year 2030 according to a report by the super secret United States National Intelligence Council, NIC.
The NIC report just released, projects an idea of what the world would look like in the future.
The report which is an articulation of expertise opinion from the US intelligence community released last December, however, admits that it may not be exact.
It is a fact many Nigerian experts would appreciate given earlier expertise opinion from the United States army that Nigeria may implode by the year 2015.
The report could come handy to Nigerian administration officials working towards the goal of putting Nigeria among the top 20 economies by the year 2020.
In the report on Global Trends 2030, the report notes that the United States and Europe would be overwhelmed by the economic powers of Asian countries as China and other Asian countries and Brazil take a leading role in dictating the pace of the world economy.

China according to the report would just overtake the US before 2030  as the world’s biggest economy.
Other powers including Nigeria according to the report, would also jump to the top in global economic ranking.
“In addition to China, India, and Brazil, regional players such as Colombia , Indonesia , Nigeria , South Africa and Turkey will become especially important to the global economy,” the report says.
“The diffusion of power among countries will have a dramatic impact by 2030. Asia will have surpassed North America and Europe combined in terms of global power, based upon GDP, population size, military spending, and technological investment.
China alone will probably have the largest economy, surpassing that of the United States a few years before 2030.
“Meanwhile, the economies of Europe, Japan, and Russia are likely to continue their slow relative declines.”
Since its establishment in 1979, the NIC has served as a bridge between the intelligence and policy communities, a source of deep substantive expertise on intelligence issues.

I’ve No Hand In 2015 Campaign Posters – Jonathan

GEJ-postersThe nation’s capital, Abuja, yesterday, was jolted to the sight of campaign posters bearing President Goodluck Jonathan’s face with the inscriptions ‘2015: No Vacancy In Aso Rock, Lets Do More, One Good Term Deserves Another, Support Dr. Goodluck Azikiwe Jonathan For 2015 Presidency.’
But apparently reacting to the widespread outrage and condemnation  that trailed such a move, the president, through his special adviser on media and publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, Wednesday, denied any complicity in the campaign posters, saying those who behind it were doing it of their own accord and not acting as his agents.
Abati while reiterating the president’s earlier stance that 2015 is still far away to be discussing it now, said the president is focused on delivering on his mandate for Nigerians and would not be distracted by the politics of 2015.
According to Abati, “those pasting the posters are trying to express their own view. The president had stated that he will talk about the presidency from 2014. Those doing these do not have the consent of the president.
According to him, “what is most important now is for the president to deliver on his electioneering promise to Nigerians and not to embark on the pasting of posters”.
He said: “It has not come from the president. Nigerians should take the president for his word and ignore any other information to the contrary”.
