Nollywood actress Olaitan Ogungbile recounts experience with sex-for-role producer

The subject of sexual harrasment in Nollywood, divides opinions. A lot of people believe it exists, while others still argue that actors/actresses, make up these stories.
However, an actress Olaitan Ogungbile, has come out to share her experience with a producer, who demanded for sex in exchange for a movie role.

Here is what she said:

For a long time this producer was disturbing me about dating, but I refused. So one day, he called me that I should come to Lagos, because then I was in Ife. I was still in school. I told him I didn’t have money to make the journey, but he said, ‘no problem, just come, after all you are coming to work and you will be paid.’
I packed my things and I came to Lagos. I got in early and met them at the location. But throughout that day, I didn’t work. When we got to the hotel, I was like where is my room and he showed me the room.
He came in with me. I told him I was hungry and he ordered for two plates of food and the next thing he removed his clothes.
I was like are you removing your clothes, and he said yes now. I now said to him, are you sleeping here?, and he said yes. Then I asked him where I was going to sleep, and he said here of course. And I said no, that we were not going to share the same room. I was really very furious and talking aloud. So he said I shouldn’t take it overboard that he will ask them to arrange another room for me and he did. So I went to sleep in my room.
Funny enough, he didn’t even bring my food to me. I didn’t eat that night. The following day I didn’t shoot any movie. Someone that promised me transport fare, he didn’t give me a kobo. So I left and went back to school. He’s not the only one. They are many.

While another of his former girlfriends Sinitta looked on, sussing out her competition, Mezhgan seemed happy to be queen bee as she chatted to the music mogul.

The make-up artist didn’t seem fazed by the fact that Simon spent much of his day texting on his phone, and made sure that she was always as close to him as possible.
After months of speculation, sources confirmed that the couple had split early in 2012, but it seems that Mezhgan is quite ready to let go of Simon just yet.
Keeping her ex close, just like Sinitta, who dated the X Factor USA judge on and off for twenty years, the brunette beauty still seemed enamoured with her friend.

The music mogul – who is also hosting his mother Julie, 85, on the trip – crammed in some rare alone time on the Slipstream mega yacht which was in the St Barts area.

Robbers Break Into KFC Thinking It’s A Jewelry Store

Two men attempted to break into a jewelry store but found themselves inside a KFC restaurant instead in Australia.
Peter Welsh, 32, and Dwayne Doolan, 31, were in court this week to face robbery charges after making several unsuccessful attempts to break into Wrights Jewellers in Beaudesert, near Brisbane, but found themselves instead inside a Kentucky Fried Chicken, KFC franchise.
The pair tried to break into the jewelry store three times. They first threw spark plugs at the Wrights Jewellers window, but when that that didn’t shatter the window they came up with the brilliant plan of breaking in through the back door. That attempt brought them inside the adjacent Animal Welfare League Opportunity Shop instead, where they ran off with a charity box containing $50. The two then decided to break their way through a wall in the communal bathroom, pseudo Mission Impossible style. While this sort of stuff works in the movies, it found Welsh and Doolan, who had hoped to enter the jewelry store through their self-made tunnel, inside a KFC being wafted by the sweet smell of “the world’s best tasting chicken.”
They made off with $2,600 after holding up the KFC employees with an iron bar.
The heist took place on New Year’s Eve. Police raided Welsh’s home later in the week and the two were charged with armed robbery and stealing, while Welsh also faces burglary and attempted burglary charges. They head in front of a judge on March 5.

Sokoto, Katsina top list of poor states

At the end of 2012, Sokoto State remained the poorest state in the country, with 81.2 per cent poverty rate, the records of the National Bureau of Statistics have shown.
According to the information on states of the federation, posted on the bureau’s website, other states with over 70 per cent poverty rate include Katsina, 74.5 per cent; Adamawa, 74.2 per cent; Gombe, 74.2 per cent; Jigawa, 74.1 per cent; Plateau, 74.1 per cent; Ebonyi, 73.6 per cent; Bauchi, 73 per cent; Kebbi, 72 per cent and Zamfara, 70.8 per cent.
The state with the lowest poverty rate was Niger with 33.8 per cent, followed by Osun with 37.9 per cent and Ondo, 45.7 per cent.
Others with less than 50 per cent poverty rate were Bayelsa State, 47 per cent and Lagos State, 48.6 per cent.
The average poverty rate of the states in the North -West geopolitical zone remained the highest at 71.4 per cent followed by North-East 69.1 per cent and North Central, 60.7 per cent.
The record showed that poverty was least prevalent in the South-West, with an average of 49.8 per cent, followed by South-South, 55.5 per cent and South-East, 59.5 per cent.
According to NBS, national unemployment rate stood at 23.9 per cent at the beginning of 2012.
There were no figures for 2011 but the 2012 statistics represented an improvement in the figures released by the bureau for 2010.
The Statistician-General of the NBS, Dr. Yemi Kale, had said 112.519 million Nigerians, representing 69 per cent, lived in relative poverty conditions.
He said this when he released the country’s 2010 poverty profile.
According to the NBS boss, the agency arrived at the 2010 figure, by collecting data from 20 million households having an average of four family members.
In that report, Sokoto had the highest poverty rate of 86.4 per cent, while Niger had the lowest — at 43.6 per cent.
It would be recalled that as at 2004, Jigawa State had the highest poverty rate of 95 per cent, while Anambra, had the lowest- 22 per cent.
For unemployment rate, Zamfara State had the highest rate of 42.6 per cent, followed by Bauchi, 41.4 per cent.
Other states with above 30 per cent unemployment rate included, Gombe, 38.7 per cent; Nassarawa, 36.5 per cent; Jigawa, 35.9 per cent; Edo, 35.2 per cent; Adamawa, 33.8 per cent and Kaduna, 30.3 per cent.
According to the records, unemployment was least in Osun followed by Kwara and Lagos.

Bought Only 3 Houses In Abuja Before I Became Gov – Sylva

If embattled former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva claims that the 48 houses seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are not his, then who owns those properties?
This and many more are the questions on the lips of many; has the EFCC reverted to the days of media trial where public sentiments are whippped up against perceived corrupt individuals? If that is not the case then someone is not telling Nigerians the truth about these landed properties confisticated in the federal capital.
According to Sylva’s counsel, Mr. Benson Ibezim, the purported seizure of his client’s properties by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged N6.46 billion fraud is a “media trial and condemnation without getting to the root and substance of the facts.”
In a statement, the former governor through his counsel stated that “Trials are done in courts of law and not on the pages of newspapers where the general public is fed with all manner of falsehood, including imaginary 48 houses.” Therefore, “We humbly and respectfully call on the media to exercise due diligence in their reporting.
“We were astonished to read from virtually all Nigerian newspapers that 48 houses belonging to Chief Timipre Sylva were seized. In the first instance, Chief Timipre Sylva does not have 48 properties anywhere in the world. The three properties he has in Abuja had been secured by an order of court granted by F.C.T. High Court and the Attorney General of the Federation and EFCC have been duly served since the 27th day of December, 2012.
“The three properties covered by the order of F.C.T. High Court are properties that were legitimately acquired by Chief Timipre Sylva and his wife before he became the executive governor of Bayelsa State. The records are quite clear on these properties as there is no iota of doubt as to the period of their acquisition-moreso as these properties were duly declared by Chief Timipre Sylva on his assumption of office as the governor of Bayelsa State.”
Ibezim added that when Sylva became aware of the plot by EFCC to humiliate him by throwing him out of a house that he bought even before he became the governor of Bayelsa State, “we wrote a letter to the Attorney General of the Federation and the Chairman of EFCC” but “Till date, both of them did not respond to the said letters.”
Ibezim called on the EFCC to obey the existing court order against it as a law abiding body.
“EFCC being a creation of law is expected to be law abiding and is advised to respect the order of FCT High Court of the 27th day of December, 2012 regarding the properties covered by the order.”

27-year-old man gives daughter suicide note and hangs himself in Ibadan

There was pandemonium at Idi Oro,  Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Saturday when a 27-year-old man, Kasim Adeniran, committed suicide.
The deceased, who was the ‘Oluwo Ogboni’ of Egbeda, Ibadan, was found hanging on the ceiling of his father’s house.
Residents of the area said the father of four was last seen on Friday night.
His first child, Anifa, 10, broke the news of her father’s death to the residents. She reportedly told the neighbours that she saw her father with a rope the previous night.
She added that her father had on Friday night given his telephone and a suicide note to her.
According to Anifa, her father told her that he planned to do something early the next morning.
It was learnt that Kasim and his first wife, Modinat, had a fight recently. She was said to have left the house for some weeks but later returned.
The note which he left with his daughter was taken away by the police from Akanran Police Station.
Our correspondent learnt that the suicide note indicated that the deceased had financial and marital challenges.
The policemen were prevented from taking Kasim’s corpse awayas some family members said some rituals must be performed on it.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Mr. Ayodele Lanade, said he did not have any information on the matter.
