Bizzare: Woman Set Ablaze By Jealous Husband

Four months after 39-year-old Janet Odhegba was set on fire by her jealous husband, Kehinde Adesanmoye, in Ikotun, Lagos State, she has yet to fully recover from the burns she sustained after the incident.

At the moment, paying her medical bills is a great challenge.
Adesanmoye had on September 11, 2012, around 10pm allegedly poured petrol on Odhegba and set her ablaze at the Ikotun Roundabout, Lagos, where she worked as a food vendor.
Adesanmoye is currently facing criminal charges before an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court.
Odhegba allegedly drew the ire of Adesanmoye the previous day after taking a wine offered to her by one of her male customers at a party where he (Adesanmoye) also attended.
The victim said her relations and community association members who had hitherto contributed money for her medical treatment said they could no longer afford to foot her medical bills.
She said they were contemplating an out-of-court settlement with Adesanmoye so that he could take responsibility for her treatment.
Odhegba said, “Life has not been the same with me since the incident I suffered in the hands of my estranged husband and I have yet to fully recover.
“More worrisome is the fact that my relations and my township association members are mounting pressure on me to embrace an out-of-court settlement with him.
“This is premised on the fact that they have been stretched to the limit in terms of assisting me financially. They have really tried because I don’t know if I would have survived it without their help.
“But, I don’t like the idea of the settlement because I really want him to face the full wrath of the law for the inhumane treatment and assault he meted out to me.”
According to a medical report signed by Dr. Kupoluyi Oluwatobi, the medical officer-in-charge of the private hospital where she was being treated, Odhegba needs to undergo a “split skin grafting by a plastic surgeon for complete wound healing.”
Odhegba said since she was discharged from the hospital because of her inability to pay the bills, adding that she had been using different traditional methods to aid the healing process.
She said, “I now adopt traditional methods for treating the wounds based on advice since I cannot afford hospital bills.
“The wound on my left hand has made my muscles to go stiff and I can no longer hold things.
“Apart from the skin grafting, doctors have also recommended that a team of physiotherapists need to work on me for the purpose of rehabilitation. I wish Nigerians could help me so that I won’t be forced to withdraw the case on lack of finance.”
Her mother, Mary, said she had spent everything she had to make her daughter normal again.
“I have sold all my property back in my village in Ozoro, Delta State. Since I moved to Lagos to oversee her welfare, all the crops I cultivated to earn a living have been completely destroyed. There is no source of getting money from anywhere again,” she lamented.

Exclusive: Stephen Keshi speaks exclusively with YNaija on the Super Eagles, who is on the team, and more

by Aitor Labrador Ochoa
The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) comes up later this month and Nigerian Coach, Stephen Keshi is satisfied with the preparedness of his team and the performance of the local players joining the team.
YNaija’s Aitor Labrador Ochoa caught up with the man they call the ‘Big Boss’ to sound him out on his team, the preparedness for the Nations Cup and lots more.

YNaija: How was the last match against Catalonia? How difficult was it with the team you currently have?
Keshi: It’s a good one because it was a good experience. We have very young players, I have about 6 or 7 local players in the game. And this is a big game for them playing against a very good side of Catalonia. It’s a good experience and exposure for them. I like it.
YNaija: But Shittu and Ameobi are yet to join the team from Newcastle, what do you think?
Keshi: We hope that Ameobi can come, and Shitu too to join the team because already, I have eight players coming on Saturday, Mikel Obi, and Victor Moses. We’ll wait till Ameobi can tell us if he’s coming. Newcastle is giving him problems.
YNaija: Why did you invite mainly boys from local leagues in Nigeria?
Keshi: We have a lot of good players in the local league and I came out of the local league before I moved to Europe. The Bull (Daniel Amokachi) was also from the local league and a lot of us, Finidi George, Jay Jay Okocha.
I think it’s the right thing to do to give the local boys opportunity to play. I’m so proud of them what they did against Catalonia, especially in the second half… they played as if they’ve been playing professional football abroad. It’s good and its going to help the local league in Nigeria to grow because it will encourage other local players to work hard.
YNaija: What do you think about the Cup of Nations and also playing against defending champions, Zambia and Burkina Faso?
Keshi: It’s going to be a tough tournament, Zambia is a good team and Burkina Faso, not forgetting Ethiopia. We are working out and we see how it goes.
YNaija: Do you susbscribe to the notion that the underdog tag fits Nigeria?
Keshi: For now Nigeria is underdog we just go there and do our job.
YNaija: Any more friendly before the competition?
Keshi: We are working on one or two games.

Jonathan attacks Obasanjo again, says ex-president is confused, unstable

By Monday Ateboh

Reuben Abati
Premium Times (2013): President Goodluck Jonathan has again lashed out at ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing him as a confused man unstable in his views regarding government’s handing of the protracted Boko Haram insurgency. Mr. Jonathan, who spoke through his spokesperson, Reuben Abati, was reacting to Mr.  Obasanjo’s comment in a CNN  interview that the president had been deploying excessive force and exploring little or no dialogue in solving the Boko Haram problem.
“To deal with a group like that, you need a carrot and stick. The carrot is finding out how to reach out to them. When you try to reach out to them and they are not amenable to being reached out to, you have to use the stick,” Mr. Obasanjo reportedly said.
An apparently angry Mr. Abati took to Twitter early this morning deploring the former president’s  comment and labeling him a confused man whose counsel or view the government does not care about.
In four different tweets this morning,  the presidential spokesperson said, “In Nov. 2012 in Warri, fmr Prez. Obasanjo accused federal govt of being soft on Boko Haram. He recommended the Odi solution: genocide.
“In Jan.2013, OBJ tells CNN Govt shd adopt a carrot and stick approach to Boko Haram. Genocide & dialogue? Where exactly does he stand?
“OBJ’s position on Boko Haram= Contradiction and Confusion writ large.
“One report says OBJ is recommending a multifaceted approach to Boko Haram. This govt certainly doesn’t need a lecture on that!
“Jonathan administration has shown creativity & purposefulness in handling the BH challenge. Hence, the progress we witness.”
Mr. Obasanjo first angered Mr. Jonathan after he suggested that the president appeared a weak leader given the way he was handling the security challenges facing the country.
In his comment, the former President reminded the nation of how he directed security agencies to invade Odi, Rivers State, to fish out militants who killed some security men during his tenure.
An angry Mr. Jonathan however hit back at  Mr. Obasanjo during his last media chat, saying the Odi invasion Mr. Obasanjo boasted about did not solve the problem but only ended up shedding the blood of the innocent.
Since then, elements loyal to the  two men within the party have engaged one another in a war of words, and the national leadership of the party has been desperate for a reconciliation.
But when a peace team, led by party chairman Bamanga Tukur, visited the ex-President in his Ota farm on December 15,  Mr. Obasanjo insisted he would continue to comment on national issues whenever necessary not minding whose ox is gored.
