2016 Presidential Election Poll: Hillary Clinton Would Lead Democratic Primary

By
Hillary Clinton would be "the ideal Democratic presidential candidate in 2016,” sweeping her party's primary and besting potential Republican candidates other than Chris Christie, according to the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.
The secretary of state has a 54 percent favorable rating among registered voters in polling released Thursday, with 39 percent viewing her unfavorably. Among Democrats, those numbers were 79 percent favorable to 15 percent unfavorable.
She led a poll of possible Democratic primary candidates by an imposing margin, garnering a majority 57 percent support. Vice President Joe Biden came in at a distant second, with 16 percent, while seven other prospective candidates, including New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, all failed to break 5 percent.
Clinton also would lead three possible GOP candidates -- former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.) -- by margins of 14 percentage points. A matchup against Clinton and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, whom she edged 44 percent to 42 percent, could be much closer.
“As expected, Hillary Clinton would be the ideal Democratic presidential candidate in 2016,” said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling. “But if Chris Christie could win the GOP nomination, he’d be a formidable general election candidate.”
The 2016 Republican primary may be a challenge for Christie, who tied for fourth among possible 2016 Republican nominees. Christie was more popular nationally with Democrats than with Republicans in the PPP survey.
Rubio was the most popular among Republicans, with 21 percent of GOP support, followed by Ryan at 16 percent, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 15 percent, and Christie and Bush at 14 percent each. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Texas Gov. Rick Perry all saw single-digit support.
With Clinton and Biden excluded from the Democratic field, 40 percent of primary voters were undecided. Cuomo and Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts took the top places, with 19 percent and 16 percent respectively, with O'Malley, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia and former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer trailing.
The PPP poll used automated phone calls to survey 1,100 registered voters from Jan. 3 to Jan. 6, with a 3 percent margin of error. The sample included 400 Democratic voters, with a 4.9 percent margin of error, and 563 Republican voters, with a 4.1 percent margin of error.

Doris Simeon Reveals All About The Relationship Between Actresses And Producers In Nollywood

doris_simeon
When it comes to Nollywood Doris Simeon is believed to be an old face as she has spent 12 years in the industry. But Doris, mother of one, will not hide from revealing the intrigues behind the producers and actresses before making a complete film.
She was recently asked if she has ever being wooed before by any producer and she said, ”It happens but it all depends on how you present and carry yourself as well as how you take your job. Some people are desperate and they would do anything just to get whatever role they want but I’m not the desperate type.
I believe so much in my talent and God. I’m one of those that believe that whatever is mine would always come to me and whatever is not mine won’t come to me. To me it’s like asking me for something and if I can’t offer it or don’t want to offer it, I simply say no. No one would force you, you would always be asked to see how desperate you are and if you say no, no one would force you. No one would r*pe you if you refuse it, so it’s about your mindset and how you present yourself.’’
On marriage, she explained how she met her estranged husband, Daniel, “funny enough, when I met him, I just came back from a job and I was called up by the location manager. I didn’t want to do the job but she was on my neck and wanted me to do the job for the producer and because she told me that majority of the crew were from English movies,
I decided to do it because I’ve heard a lot about these people being arrogant and all that. I wanted to see how they were but unfortunately, every member of the crew irrespective of their native tongue was friendly that I kept wondering where the perceived arrogance went.
They were so accommodating and that changed my perception about a lot of these colleagues. So, it was on that set that I met him because he was the producer and director of the movie which was Omo Jaiye Jaiye. He would walk up to me and greet me and he was always friendly like others and on that location, we all didn’t want to go and we became friends. From there, marriage and a child and later a break up.”

I have not discovered the cure for HIV/AIDS, Prof. Ibeh makes a u-turn

Prof. Isaiah Ibeh

The controversy trailing the alleged discovery of a herbal medicine capable of curing the dreaded HIV/AIDS by Nigerian academic, Prof. Isaiah Ibeh, Dean, School of Basic Medical Science of University of Benin (UNIBEN), took a twist Thursday, following the recanting of the claim by the professor.
In a five-paragraph statement made available to journalists in Benin City, Prof. Ibeh expressed regrets over the publication of his acclaimed discovery of a drug that could cure
HIV/AIDS, saying that the publication was a misrepresentation of what actually transpired.
“The true position is that some observations of our Research are preliminary and the research is still ongoing.
“I am very sorry for the embarrassment this has caused the University of Benin and Professional Colleagues, realizing that there are procedures of reporting such Scientific result,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UNIBEN management has further distanced itself from Prof. Ibeh in an official pronouncement.
A press statement signed by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Barr. Harrison Osarenren, said as a reputable institution, well rooted in the promotion of research and development, it considers the publicized claim an embarrassment, bearing in mind that there were laid down procedures for disseminating academic breakthroughs.
The University while appreciating Prof. Ibeh’s efforts, pointed out that his procedure did not follow laid down protocol said, adding, “for the avoidance of doubt, the said claim by Prof. Ibeh is a research exercise which is still in its infancy stage and therefore, on-going.”
The UNIBEN management maintained that until all the appropriate scientific processes have been duly followed in the research, it could not make any pronouncement on the research.
The National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday also debunked the claim, with its Director-General, Dr Paul Orhii, saying Ibeh’s claim was capable of misleading the public, especially those with the virus.
“There is no known treatment anywhere in the world now; no known cure; there are medicines that can contain HIV and AIDS but there is no known scientifically approved cure for HIV and AIDS.
“I want to categorically tell you, to avoid any doubt, make it abundantly clear to you that NAFDAC completely disassociates itself from the claims for a cure of HIV and AIDS made by Prof. Isaiah Ibeh of the University of Benin.
“The agency wishes to state that this herbal drug, which is claimed to have undergone a series of successful tests has never been presented to NAFDAC for evaluation of efficacy and safety.
“And as you know, we are the agency that has the mandate to make quality pronouncement on drugs that are to be used in Nigeria; we have never evaluated this drug.’’ ·

Ibori's 15m Bribe: EFCC Files Counter Affidavit Against Delta State

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on January 10, 2013, told the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja why the $15 million (Fifteen Million Dollars) ex- governor James Ibori bribe money should not be returned to the Delta State Government.
photoPresiding Justice Gabriel Kolawole had on July 24, 2012 granted an interim order of forfeiture of an unclaimed $15m Ibori bribe to the federal government following an application by the EFCC. In granting the order, the judge upheld the federal government’s claim that the money “If left untouched and unspent in the state it was kept in the strong room (of the CBN) since April 2007, may eventually be destroyed, defaced, mutilated and become useless.”
But the Delta state government had approached the court asking that the money belonged to the state government and should therefore be returned to the state.
In a 29 paragraph counter affidavit in opposition to the claimants affidavit, the EFCC through its counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, said that the said sum of $15 Million was given as bribe by an undisclosed agent of James Ibori but neither the said James Ibori nor any other person ever admitted giving the said amount to the EFCC or to any person whatsoever.
“That the Delta State Government did not petition the EFCC either before or after the filing of the charge against the said James Ibori complaining that the sum of $15 million or any other sum was missing in the account of the state or that any fund belonging to Delta State was stolen by James Ibori or any of his associates”.
While attaching a copy of the Originating Summons filed by the Attorney General of the Delta State at Federal High Court, Benin City as Exhibit RJ 01, the EFCC said “that when the Delta State Government got to know that the EFCC was about to prefer criminal charges against James Ibori, the state government through its Attorney General and three others, approached the Federal High Court, Benin City, challenging the power of the EFCC to interfere in any matter involving or pertaining to the affairs of the State while James Ibori was the Governor of the State”. Adding that even the said James Ibori who allegedly sent the bribe denied ever giving or authorizing the giving of the bribe at anytime.
The EFCC further said that “that the said sum of $15 Million cannot be traced to any account owned or being operated by the Delta State Government or any of its agencies and officials”.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole had on Friday November 23, 2012 dismissed a similar application brought by Mr. Olalekan Bayode seeking to be admitted as a party in the $15 million Ibori bribe forfeiture matter. Kolawole while striking out the application noted that it was completely at variance with the interim order of court inviting interested parties to show cause why the money should not be forfeited to the federal government.
Further proceedings have been adjourned till January 28, 2013.
