FRSC: We Are Not Recruiting, Don’t Pay Money Into Any Account

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, on Thursday denied rumours that it is conducting a recruitment exercise.
In a statement signed by a Superintendent Route Marshal, Ohaeri Osondu, the Corps said the rumour making rounds is a scam perpetrated by some individuals to extort money from desperate jobseekers in the nation. Mr. Osondu stated that the trend is disturbing. The management of the Federal Road Safety Corps wishes to discountenance itself from this criminal act and advises the general public especially, job seekers to disregard such unauthorized and mischievous publications as " the Corps has no immediate arrangements to embark on any recruitment exercise,” he said.
The individuals put out a fake FRSC recruitment advert and asked unsuspecting job seekers to pay the sum of N10,000 into a First Bank account. An enquiry line – 08050907157 owned by a certain Mr. Gbenga was also advertised, perhaps to ensure that people who fall prey call the line for further directions.
The FRSC advised the general public to check for recruitment publications by the corps on its official website, www.frsc.gov.ng; its facebook page, www.fb.com/federalroadsafetycorps, its twitter handle @FRSCNigeria or call their toll free line 122 or 070022553772, 08077690055 and 08077690397; to avoid being scammed.

President Obama's White House Honey Ale Fetches $1,200 For Minnesota Charity

 By
(Pete Souza/White House)
Though a self-proclaimed “beer guy” was overjoyed to get a bottle of White House-brewed beer from President Obama during the campaign, he decided to auction it off for a cause even closer to his heart.
Brad Magerkurth, a homebrewer and traveling salesman, happened to have been in Knoxville, Iowa when Obama was making his way through the swing state in August, the blog Obamafooddrama reports. After bonding with the president over their mutual appreciation of the drink, Magerkurth was surprised with a bottle of White House Pale Ale that an aide retrieved from Ground Force One.
"I was pretty ecstatic," Magerkurth told Obamafoodorama. "For someone in the beer industry, it's about the coolest thing in the world."
But while it may have been the keepsake of a lifetime, Magerkurth recognized that it was also an opportunity to raise some serious funds. He decided to auction the beer off at a food and drink festival in Minnesota for $1,200 for the beer, which benefitted the University of Minnesota’s Amplatz Children's Hospital.
Though Magerkurth may have given up the opportunity to chug a beer brewed at 1600 Pennsylvania, he can at least try and recreate it now that the secret recipe has been divulged.
Back in August, a Redditor submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to find out what goes into the White House beer.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney then vowed to unveil the ingredients once 25,000 people signed the petition begging for the White House Pale Ale recipe –- a goal that was finally reached in August.

Obama: Treasury nominee Lew will fix his signature

President Barack Obama formally nominates White House chief of staff Jack Lew to succeed Treasury Secretary Timothy …President Barack Obama on Thursday formally nominated White House chief of staff Jack Lew to succeed departing Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner—but joked that Lew’s now-famously loopy signature had almost cost him the job.
“I had never noticed Jack’s signature,” Obama said in a ceremony in the White House’s East Room, with both men in attendance. “When this was highlighted yesterday in the press, I considered rescinding my offer to appoint him.
“Jack assures me that he is going to work to make at least one letter legible in order not to debase our currency should he be confirmed as secretary of the Treasury,” the president added, drawing laughs from the audience.

Obama has been filling out key posts ahead of the official beginning of his second term. He has also nominated Democratic Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry to be secretary of state, Republican former Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska to be secretary of Defense, and White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan to head the CIA.
The president, who takes the oath of office in not quite two weeks, appears to be choosing trusted advisers for key positions—people who have already had a hand in shaping his policies, not breath-of-fresh-air outsiders who might try to steer his second term in a radically new direction. He has also disappointed some observers who had hoped for a more diverse second-term Cabinet.
Geithner made no mention of Lew’s signature, which resembles an aerial photo of the trajectory of an out-of-control Zamboni. But Lew happily got in on the act.
Lew’s signature would adorn the dollar bill with what, to the untrained eye, might look like an aerial shot of …“Tim, you’ve been a friend and a colleague for many years—actually decades,” the wonky longtime economic policymaker said. “You know, I thought I knew you pretty well, but it was only yesterday that I discovered that we both share a common challenge with penmanship.”
He was referring to Geithner's own signature woes, which led him to change his signature when he became Treasury secretary.

Fire Guts New Market In Oyo, Goods Worth Millions Lost

Barely twenty-four hours after a section of the royal Palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Olayiwola Adeyemi III was razed by fire, another major fire incident occurred at the New Gbagi Market in Ibadan in the early hours of Thursday destroying goods and property worth millions of naira.
Thursday’s fire disaster at the market, popularly called Bola Ige International Market, Ibadan, was also coming barely few days after such sad incident at the Ifeleye market, also in Ibadan which was gutted on Monday.
Eye witness accounts revealed that the fire at the Bola Ige International Market  started at about 1 am and lasted for hours before men of the State Fire Service were able to curtail it.
Specifically, the fire which started from the section where stoves and cookers are being sold destroyed about 24 shops at the market.

Five People Of Faith Who Can Replace Louie Giglio For The Inaugural Benediction

by Jack Jenkins
Bishop Minerva Carcaño
Now that Rev. Louis Giglio, the anti-LGBT pastor who had been announced to perform the benediction at President Obama’s second inauguration, has withdrawn from the official program, inauguration planners will be looking for someone else to fill his slot in the program.
Here are five progressive people of faith who could replace Giglio and deliver the benediction at the inauguration:
1. Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño – A bishop in the United Methodist Church, Carcaño has a long history of advocating for comprehensive immigration reform in the United States. She has also been a supporter of LGBT rights within the Methodist church, and publicly opposed Arizona Proposition 107 (2006), a bill that sought to ban gay marriage in the state.
2. Rev. Otis Moss III – Pastor of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, Rev. Moss is an ordained minister within both the Progressive National Baptist Convention and the United Church of Christ. He is an award-winning preacher and a strong advocate for reaching troubled inner-city youth. More recently, he has challenged his fellow pastors to be more accepting of marriage equality.
3. Very Reverend Gary R. Hall – Rev. Hall, an Episcopal priest and dean of the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, is fast becoming the face of faith-led support for gun control legislation, having recently declared “the gun lobby is no match for the cross lobby.” He also recently championed the Cathedral’s decision to begin performing same-sex marriages.
4. Brian McLaren – If organizers are keen on choosing someone with ties to the evangelical Christian tradition, then McLaren is a far more inclusive choice. A pastor, author, and speaker within the emerging church movement, McLaren is also an activist for the marginalized, and has stood with farm workers ion Florida in their struggle for fairer pray. He is also a supporter for LGBT equality, and recently oversaw his son’s same-sex marriage.
5. Someone who isn’t Christian – Although a variety of religious voices have been represented in presidential inaugurations in years past (Ronald Reagan’s inauguration, for example, featured a prayer from Rabbi Alfred Gottschalk), more recent inauguration ceremonies have privileged Christian voices. With this in mind, the Inaugural committee would do well to consider picking someone more representative of America’s religious diversity. Possible candidates could include Rabbi Denise Eger, Muslims such as interfaith activist Eboo Patel, or any number of representatives from the Sikh community, just to name a few.

Shocker: Police Killed My Aide – Oshiomhole

LATE OLAITAN OYERINDE MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD BY SUSPECTED ASSASSINS
LATE OLAITAN OYERINDE MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD BY SUSPECTED ASSASSINS
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the executive governor of Edo state, has laid the blame for the assassination of his Special Adviser and Personal Secreatry, Mr. Olaitan Oyerinde, squarely at the doorstep of the Nigeria Police.Oshiomhole made this allegation on Thursday in Abuja while speaking at the launching of the new code of conduct for the Nigerian police. The petite governor supported his allegation with the explanation that both the assassin and the weapon used to murder the late Oyerinde were in police custody as at the time the heinpus crime was committed.
He said, “The man, who was involved in the murder according to the record of the police including the entry made by a DPO (Divisional Police Officer) in a police station, was already under police detention at the time my private secretary was murdered.
“The weapon that was used for the murder was used for armed robbery earlier, recovered by the police and under police custody at the time my secretary was murdered.
“So, the man who murdered my secretary was in police custody; the gun he used was in police custody and this is the findings of the police. The only conclusion that can be reached is that the police ordered the killing of my private secretary.”
The former aide to the comrade governor, who was shot and killed in front of his wife and children at his residence in Benin City by suspected assassins, was close to Mr Oshiomole during his days as a labour leader. And it was not unsurprising that the governor was almost overwhelmed with emotions as he called for the investigation of the Deputy Inspector General of police in charge of criminal investigation and possible dismissal if he is found culpable in the death of late Oyerinde.
