PDP power tussle: Governors defy Jonathan, insist Tukur must go [DETAILS]

Akan Ido
There are indications that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors are calling for the removal of the party chairman, Bamanga Tukur against the wishes of the presidency. Sources say all efforts by president Goodluck Jonathan to dissuade them from insisting on his removal fell on deaf ears.
The governors had yesterday met with the president for three hours to deliberate on the issue which is causing rancour and dissatisfaction among members of the ruling party.
Sources say part of the governors’ problems with Tukur was his reported meddling into Adamawa PDP politics and his unilateral dissolution of the executive council in the state chapter of the party.
The governors had earlier met in Abuja on Wednesday to call for an immediate convening of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, as well as endorse the decision of the NWC rescinding the dissolution of the PDP Adamawa State Executive.
Party chairman, Bamanga Tukur is seen as an appointee of the president and not one chosen by general consensus. The governors had at the party’s 2012 convention expressed their preference for another candidate, Dr. Musa Babayo, but the president had insisted on working only with Tukur and none other.
Observers believe Tukur is not happy with the fact that the governors did not give him the needed support and is out to take his revenge on them especially the governor of his home state, Adamawa, Murtala Nyako.
The party has, however, admitted that there is truly a crisis but said this has been settled by its Board of Trustees.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Olisa Metuh, said the PDP remained the only political party in the country where differences in the leadership of its various organs could be resolved within a record time.
He reportedly said, “In a political party as large as the PDP, divergent opinions on issues are normal but in the ability of its leaders to resolve and find a common ground on such issues, dwells the strength and dynamism of such an organisation.
“In this instance, it is only in the PDP that misunderstandings are not just resolved but done in matter of hours.
“The National Working Committee of the PDP therefore wishes to commend the Board of Trustees of the party for proving its role as the conscience of the party.”
After the crucial meeting with the president yesterday, the governors were said to have convened at another location ostensibly to further deliberate on the recommendations of the president.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio admitted that it was normal to have internal wranglings in such a big party as the PDP but assured that the misunderstanding will be resolved amicably.
He said, “You know the PDP is a very large party. The party may have its own internal challenges; of course we have our own modus operandi: ways of resolving all these issues.
“Various committees have been set up from the Board of Trustees to the National Working Committee. I believe that at the end of the day, in the next one week, all those issues will be a thing of the past.”
When confronted with the report that the PDP governors were not happy with party’s chairman, Akpabio said, “There is nothing like the PDP governors not being happy. We identify with the party; we have confidence in the party and all the internal wranglings you are hearing are normal in any democracy.”
“The governors are happy with the party and we are sure that under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan, all the issues pertaining to the party will be resolved amicably and the party will come out stronger.”

Bisi Komolafe: Family, fiancĂ© battle over late actress’ property

A week after the remains of Nollywood actress, Bisi Komolafe was laid to rest amid tears in Ibadan, Oyo State, her fiancĂ©, Tunde Ijadola and members of her family are already on war path over the  deceased’s  property.
This development was made public during the week when Tunde cried out, saying “I don’t think it is a proper thing for family members to be fighting me for Bisi’s property less than 24hours after her death when we should be mourning her.”
Ijadola reacted to the accusations levelled against him that he was not ready to release any of the deceased’s property to them.
According to him, “You will recall that after Bisi Komolafe’s burial, her family not only claimed that I  was responsible for her death, but also ordered me to vacate her apartment and return her vehicle to them.
Complying with the instruction, Tunde stated that “I am sending the Honda Pilot back to them, sad enough, Bisi’s parents do not have issues with me but her extended family members. Please note I have given them time and place to pick the car.”
“On the accusation that he went back to pack Bisi’s properties, he said, “I came back to Nigeria on October 24, 2012. Bisi and I left the Ikorodu flat on October 26, 2012 and until now, I have never stepped into the Ikorodu apartment which I rented for her. I’m shocked by what I am hearing. Bisi was living in Ajao Estate before I rented the Ikorodu apartment for her.”
Tunde also cleared the air on the accusation that  he had been hiding Bisi from people.
He said “I had to change Bisi’s numbers because she needed rest, when she was ill people kept calling her for work. It is sad that Bisi died the way she did. One of the main issues between me and her family was the fact that when Bisi’s sickness dragged on, I went spiritual  to save her. We were told that her problems were spiritual but her family wouldn’t allow us to take her for spiritual care.”

Nkiru Sylvanus’ Abduction: Okorocha’s Aide Held

The abduction of Miss Nkiru Sylvanus, Nollywood actress and the special assistant to Governor Rochas Okorocha on Public Affairs, last December for which the state government reportedly paid a ransom of N8 million to secure her release, may have been an insider job.
Daily Sun reliably gathered that Mr. Jerry Okosun, director-general, Youths and Students Affairs to Governor Okorocha is currently being detained by the Imo State Police Command over his alleged involvement in the kidnap saga.
Jerry, who is the son of the late legendary musician, Sunny Okosun and had facilitated the negotiation between the kidnappers and Miss Slyvanus’ family was said to have been implicated by text massages allegedly exchanged between him and the abductors, who collected N8 million as ransom from the Sylvanus family.
Reliable source close to the Government House hinted Daily Sun that the bubble burst after a top government official tipped the police on the involvement of the governor’s aide in the abduction. Although Okosun was not among the suspects earlier paraded by the police, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Vitalis Onugu, confirmed his arrest. The PPRO, however, said it had not been established if he was actually culpable in the crime.

Solomon: "I’m Next Lagos Governor"

The Senate Minority Whip, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Thursday said he would be the next governor of Lagos State come 2015.

Solomon, who represents Lagos West Senatorial district, said with his experience and developmental vision nursed over the years for the state, declaring that he was more than prepared to take the state further.
This sort of declaration would be the first time that any intending governorship aspirant in the state, irrespective of political party, would come out to indicate interest in Lagos governorship race in the countdown to 2015. Others, who have been previously quoted as nursing similar ambition, have denied the attribution for one political reason or the other.
As former chairman of Mushin Local Government Area, Solomon had progressed in his political career over the years, moving from the House of Representatives, where he represented Mushin Federal Constituency I for four years, to the Senate where he is currently serving a second term in office.
However, justifying his intention to become the next governor of the state, Solomon, who is by this decision giving the governorship a second shot, told the interviewer: "I have the experience and I am convinced that I will take the state further from where it is now."
The lawmaker also dwelt on the agitation for local government’s autonomy, saying while the councils could not have full autonomy, they deserve a degree of independence to be able to function effectively, especially in terms of finance, adding that it amounts to sheer semantics calling them by whatever names such as administrative vehicle or arm.
Frowning on the state of the local governments administration, as a former council chairman, Solomon said things were different in his days as they had their allocation directly from the federation account, and, as such, could put development to serious task.
He, however, defended the attitude of the state government to the councils in the state, saying no local government chairman has come out to protest perceived injustice.
On the ongoing constitution review, which public hearing Solomon chaired the South-west chapter, he said some of the key issues that dominated discourse included special status for Lagos, council administration, state creations and state police, noting that a referendum may be impossible because it is not provided for in the clause that pertains to amendment of the constitution.
But as an individual, he declared support for state police because it is in sync with federal character. "We cannot choose to embrace whatever suits us to define our federalism in terms of character. I support state police because it will reflect the character of federalism in the true sense of it."
The senator, who described the controversial allowances of National Assembly members as over-exaggerated, explained that the Budget Act is a document of the National Assembly which comes from the executive as mere proposal and that it is the duty of the parliament to determine what goes where, if convinced by the defence presentations of the various ministries.
He also described as misplaced opinions of certain people who would rather the National Assembly passed the budget as presented by the executive, noting that the document is the parliament’s and not the executive’s as may have been misconstrued.
Solomon condemned in strong terms the menace of political thugs in the society and established a link between the ugly trend and the growing unemployment rate in the country, adding that it was a global concern and must be addressed as such.

Why Man Kills Lover And Pretends She's Alive For 18 Years

A married man killed his lover, hid her body and kept up a charade that she was still alive for 18 years, the Old Bailey heard. Kevin Doherty even made two sham calls to himself claiming they were from Jane Harrison, 32. He told police he thought she had gone off with another man, jurors were told.

Accused of murder: Jane Harrison, was allegedly killed by Kevin Doherty, who went on to hide her body and pretend she was still alive, a jury at the Old Bailey was told
She was last seen shopping with him for a holiday they were due to take two days later in June 1995. But the prosecution said he killed her, took her body to a lock-up garage and reported her missing the next day. The body of the mother of two boys has never been found and the evidence against Doherty was only circumstantial, said Jonathan Rees QC, prosecuting. "This case is rather different in a number of respects from many cases tried in this court. The prosecution have no evidence of a dead body. We say that although she is dead her body hasn't been discovered. We say there is a reason for this. After this defendant killed her he managed to dispose of the body in such a way as to conceal it from the authorities or anyone else who might come across it and bring it to the attention of the authorities. Another particular feature is this: the prosecution have no direct evidence that the defendant was responsible for Jane Harrison's death. We are not in a position to call any eyewitnesses who claim to have seen the murderous attack and there is no CCTV evidence,"- the prosecutor said.
With no body and no hard evidence linking him to the disappearance, the investigation was closed on September 1, 1995. Indeed, there is no evidence this defendant has ever admitted he killed Jane. Instead, the prosecution relies on what is commonly referred to as circumstantial evidence. Doherty, a married father-of-four who now works as a black cab driver, claims Miss Harrison had decided to start a new life with another man. But public appeals and searches with Interpol have failed to track her down, the court heard. Doherty and Miss Harrison began a "volatile, on-off" relationship in 1992 after they met in a nightclub and had a son together in April 1994. He was married at the time and had a house with his wife in east London, but would often stay at his lover's flat in Poets Road, Highbury, north London. Doherty, who worked at the time in a warehouse for craft firm Baker Ross, took her on lavish holidays to destinations including Tenerife and the Seychelles. But the pair had begun to have explosive rows in the months before she disappeared, with Miss Harrison often showing up at his workplace to quarrel with him. On June 15, 1995, they went to Wood Green Shopping City in north London, where they bought items including a keyring featuring a picture of themselves together. Doherty claims he had sex with her in his Ford Escort Cabriolet on the way and that he dropped her off in Petherton Road, Highbury, so she could visit her uncle.
Never found: Ms Harrison's body has not been found by police, a jury at the Old Bailey (pictured) heard

But Mr Rees said: "The prosecution contention is that this aspect of his statement is a lie. It was a lie that was told to conceal the fact that actually he drove elsewhere for purposes connected to her murder. We suggest the lock-up garage he kept in Walthamstow is the most likely destination. Plainly it was a perfect place to keep someone he had either abducted or killed.'"
After returning to Miss Harrison's council flat, Doherty made a series of phone calls from his mobile to her landline and pretended to others that he was talking to her. He also told her son Ryan, then aged 14, that he was certain his mother would return and called a neighbour to say he would go out looking for his mistress in local pubs. "But the prosecution say this was just a charad. He wasn't looking for her in local pubs. The evidence shows he had driven his car back to the Woodford area. The fact is he was effectively manufacturing for himself a false alibi,"said Mr Rees.
Miss Harrison was devoted to her family and the idea she would disappear without once contacting them was "beyond fanciful", he added. Doherty had booked a holiday to Florida for the weekend after her disappearance, but cancelled it after she vanished, the court was told. But with no body and no hard evidence linking him to the disappearance, the investigation was closed on September 1, 1995. Doherty was not re-arrested until May 29 last year. When he was quizzed by police he said he was not a jealous man and denied he had argued with Miss Harrison in the run-up to her disappearance. Doherty was questioned about her abduction in 1995 but was arrested last year after a murder inquiry was launched.

ACTRESS Nuella Njubigbo 199x300 Hot Pants Actress, Nuella Njubigbo Dumps Lover For Governor

No doubt, it’s season of enjoyment for the beautiful Nollywood diva called Nuella Njubigbo who is said to have just acquired a brand new 2011 Toyota Highlander, SUV last December 2012. The wonder on wheels estimated to cost a whopping N8million.
Though, Nuella Njubigbo is one actress who is not on the A-list category, her sudden wealth is said to have been traced to series of men she has dated in the past. Before now, she was a darling of the film maker, Tchidi Chikere, when she came into his life, a union of over a decade collapsed irreconcilably.
Nigeriafilms gathered that, it was the rumoured pregnancy of Nuella Njubigbo for Tchidi that led to Sophia bidding goodbye to a home she struggled to build. Ever since Sophia has kept mum.
According to a reliable source, when Nuella Njubigbo discovered that she wasn’t getting what she expected from Tchidi, a common producer, she moved to date a Russian based footballer, Emanuel Emenike. Her relationship with the handsome rich dude didn’t last a year as she was said to have met another lady with Emenike the last time she made a trip to Russia and that put a stop to her frequent visit to the place.
Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who has romanced quite a few Nollywood actresses, according to findings, has caught the eyes of pretty Nuella Njubigbo and they are neck deep in a soaring relationship and Nuella Njubigbo herself, we learnt, is seriously enjoying every moment of the relationship till it lasts.
The smitten lovebirds met in early November 2012 in Port Harcourt where the actress had gone to represent Nollywood stuffs, and numbers were exchanged.
One thing led to another, Nuella Njubigbo thereafter escorted the governor abroad on official trip and when she came back, Amaechi was so smitten that he presented her the SUV which was supposedly taken from items meant for the state government, as we were told.
Amaechi also credited the actress’ account with N5 million to get an apartment in the Eastern part of Nigeria, a source stated.
