Wada In Hospital Again, Hails Nigerian Doctors, Facilities
Governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, was in the hospital on Friday in continuation of process toward his total recovery. Wada arrived the Cedarcrest Orthopaedic hospital, Abuja at 10.34 a.m. in a convoy of three cars. He rode in an Audi car with tinted glasses while his protocol officers and security details rode in the other two cars and as he alighted, he collected his arm-pit steeled crutches from his aides and went in to see the doctors as he greeted everyone he saw while entering the hospital.Decked in a sky blue kaftan with a hand-woven multi-coloured cap to match, the governor, who emerged from inside the clinic some few minutes later clutching a new set of walking aides, described his recovery from the auto-crash as a confirmation of his belief in the capabilities of Nigerians to provide world class medical services in orthopaedic medical practice when given equal opportunities as their foreign counterparts.
He was quick, however, to advice people to follow their beliefs and convictions when faced with medical situations and have to decide where to get medical help because according to him, “it is not a situation where one size fits all.
“But for me, I have been convinced from the beginning that I can get medical treatment here and that was why we are here and up till this moment, I can only I appreciate my doctors.
“Once again, I thank God for sparing my life and I am very appreciative to all who contributed to my quick recovery since all these happened,” the governor stated.
The governor, unlike his first visit to the hospital since his discharge more than a week ago, this time around, spared some words for people of Kogi State who might be eager to witness his quick return to official duties.
He said despite the rate of his recovery, he would still abide strictly by the doctors’ instructions.
In his words, “we have come this far because of the guidance of the doctors, I cannot discharge myself, but I will return to work as soon as my doctors declare me fit enough to return to work.”

War in PDP: “Sack Oni, Mustapha now,” – Kashamu tells Tukur
By Ameh Comrade Godwin
Following the sudden sack of PDP National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, ace business mogul and financier of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Prince Buruji Kashamu, has called on the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to implement the various court judgments that annulled the election of two top officers from the South West region. The party chieftain said that Friday’s ruling of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja which fired the party’s National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, had further shown the authenticity of decisions of the various courts, which declared the Chief Adebayo Dayo-led state executive as the only authentic and legally recognised executive of the PDP in Ogun State.
The factional leader said: “This (judgment) is very good. Oyinlola was removed as governor of Osun State because of such illegalities. It was this same attitude he exhibited as the party’s national secretary.
“He has been working against the rule of law concerning Ogun PDP by opposing the legally recognised Adebayo Dayo-led state exco.
“Tukur (PDP national chairman) should seize this opportunity to throw him (Oyinlola), Bode Mustapha and Segun Oni out of office because the courts have nullified their positions. The rule of law has prevailed in the case of these sacked national officers of the party.”

Churches don’t need aircraft for evangelism – Bola Aki-John
By Ameh Comrade Godwin
He thus supported the recent call made by ace lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana who said that churches should pay tax to the government.
The controversial lawyer made the call following the controversy generated by the acquisition of private jets by some eminent Nigerian pastors.
Akin-John while reacting said the feeling of the public about the church as a very wealthy organization prompted the human rights lawyer to make such call.
According to him: “Some people have argued that buying a new aircraft is like buying a new car. But I disagree. Those who are buying aircraft today, I don’t have any quarrel with that; it is their right. But they are sending the wrong signal to the body of Christ and the society.
“The society is getting a wrong impression of the church due to the ostentatious lifestyles of some church leaders.
“Some people said the aircraft is a tool of evangelism but in a country where there is abject poverty; where majority don’t have what to eat, would God provide a tool that would cost you about N850m to buy and N250m every month to maintain?
“People say they are using it for evangelism, is there an airstrip in every community? I am an insider; let me tell you the truth, people who invite pastors who fly personal jets are made to bear the costs.”
He said, “That is why I agree with what Femi Falana said that the church should pay tax. In a country where we have a responsible government, the source of wealth of these people must be scrutinised. “I don’t believe the church should pay taxes to the government because the church is a partner in progress with the government.
“But when the church is involved in private businesses such as mining, oil and gas, it should be taxed. Even when it is involved in universities and schools where fees are paid, it should be taxed. Those businesses should be taxed because that is where those people get the money.
“There is no church that can buy and maintain an aircraft from tithes. Most of the funds come from the personal businesses of their leaders or the money given to them as gifts.
“It breaks my heart when people say the church is making a lot of money, it is not true. When you look closely, such money does not come from the church but from the private businesses of the church leaders.”

PDP Crisis: Jonathan Plans Against Governors
Following what appeared a palace
coup on Tuesday by the members of the National Working Committee (NWC)
of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan and
his strategists have initiated moves to regain control of the party. A
major plank of the strategy is to whip some members into line by
supporting the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, wholeheartedly
or get them removed outright from the committee.
They seem to be succeeding as the party’s National Secretary, ex- governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, was yesterday removed from office by an Abuja court. His removal was greeted with jubilation in the camp of the President and Tukur . A source close to the President told our reporter that with the development, Oyinlola, who got into office with the support of PDP governors, is “down and out “. (See Court sacks Oyinlola as PDP scribe below).
The NWC members, mostly loyal to governors, some kingmakers and ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, had on Tuesday moved against Tukur.
The NWC members nullified the just-concluded congresses in Adamawa State and reinstated the State Executive Committee of the PDP led by Alhaji Umaru Mijinyawa Kaugama.
It was the first time in the history of the PDP that all NWC members, including the National Secretary of the party, would rise against a serving National Chairman without a dissenting voice.
They all rejected the purported election of a new State Executive Committee headed by Chief Joel Madaki.
But a rattled Tukur said NWC members’ action amounted to “a betrayal” with a promise to fight back.
Investigation revealed that apart from Tukur, the President and his strategists were shocked by the “rebellion” of NWC members at a time they thought they were in control of the party.
It was learnt that the Presidency felt that the “rebellion” might have been instigated by some forces within the party, including PDP governors, to prove a point that Jonathan is not in control of the PDP structure.
It was gathered that the intervention of the President was not only designed to reconcile, but to gauge the mood of some critical stakeholders.
According to findings, the crisis between Tukur and NWC members was a signal that Jonathan might lose the 2015 presidential ticket unless urgent action is taken to whip the party leadership in line.
A reliable source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The President and his strategists were shocked that the NWC, which was put in place after a careful and mutual negotiation with stakeholders, could openly disgrace the National Chairman of the party.
“Although the President succeeded in dousing the fire temporarily, the signal from the NWC members was clear that he was losing the grip of the party.
“This explains why the President and his strategists are working round the clock on how to regain the control of the PDP structure and earn the confidence of NWC members.
“As part of this new initiative, the President spent Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to meet with PDP governors and other stakeholders. He spent 72 hours addressing the crisis in the NWC instead of managing state affairs.
“Ordinarily, if the NWC members have respect for the President, they ought to have deferred to the President before going to the press on Tuesday to move against Tukur.
“They simply acquiesced to the bidding of their governors, sponsors or godfathers. This development worsened the situation.
“And the discontentment came at a time most party leaders were fed up with the leadership style of the National Chairman.
Responding to a question, another source said: “With this NWC structure, Jonathan would have to forget the 2015 presidential ticket. If they can do it on Adamawa crisis, they can upturn the table when it comes to presidential primaries.
“This is the main worry of the President’s think-tank. The crisis was seen as a smack of indiscipline by NWC members.”
Asked of the options available to the President and his strategists, a third source said: “Besides reuniting the NWC members, there are plans to woo or lobby some of them to appreciate the transformation agenda of the President.
“Also, some strategists of the President are already reaching out to PDP governors and the godfathers of some NWC members to call them to order and allow some stability in the party.
“Some of those who had hands in the emergence of NWC members are ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, other members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, ex-Governor Bukola Saraki and the Ubas.
“The NWC members are also products of the party structure in the six geo-political zones. Their zones might be asked to prevail on these leaders to give peace a chance.
“In fact, this was the key message of the President to the breakfast session with PDP governors on Thursday.”
Investigation also revealed that the President and his strategists might bid time and invoke Article 14.2 of the PDP Constitution to call for an emergency National Convention or a mid-term vote of confidence on NWC members.
Although the NWC members came on board in March 2012, their attitude or performance could lead PDP members to effect change.
Article 14.2 reads: “A vote of confidence may be moved on any member of the Executive Committee of the party at any level at any National Convention or Congress of the party two years into the tenure of such member of the Executive Committee and where such a vote fails, the Executive Committee member shall be replaced at that National Convention or Congress.
“Provided that two months notice of such motion shall be given to the Secretary at the appropriate level who shall circulate it to the relevant chapters one month before the National Convention or Congress.”
Another source added that by virtue of Article 21.1- 21.12, a disciplinary action can be initiated against any member of the NWC, if there is a petition alleging misconduct.
The source said: “Those against NWC members can hide under this clause to deal with them. That is why some of these NWC members are jittery.”

REVEALED: A Policeman was behind Nkiru Sylvanus’s Kidnap
The policeman (name withheld), attached to the Squadron 19 of the Mobile Police Force in Port Harcourt, was shot and arrested in Owerri by a combined team of men of the State Security Service (SSS) and the Army.
The policeman, until his arrest, was said to be the gang leader of a notorious kidnap syndicate that terrorized Abia, Imo and River states.
Explaining how Nkiru was abducted on December 16 last year, a reliable source among the security operatives that arrested the ring leader, told The Nation that the fair-skinned actress was trailed on the fateful day by a team of armed men in police uniform led by the arrested policeman who drove a tinted Sports Utility Jeep based on information supplied by another aide to the governor.
The source said the suspect had confessed to the crime and many other high-profile kidnap cases in the Southeast and beyond.
“The policeman was also recruiting and training other gang members and was using his police connections to beat security checks but he has come to the end of the road,” the source said.
The suspect, who is from Assa in the Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of Imo State, was allegedly arrested with the sum of N3.5 million believed to be part of the N8million ransom paid to secure the release of the thespian.
The arrest of the alleged kidnap kingpin was confirmed by the SSS Director of Operations in Imo State who did not give further details, but stated that “the suspect is in their custody over his involvement in the abduction of Nkiru.”
However, when contacted, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Vitalis Onugu, said he was away in Abuja, attending seminar and have not been briefed on the incident.

PDP is a crumbling party – Opposition parties, SNG others
By Ameh Comrade Godwin
In separate reactions, they all observed that the ‘war’ in the PDP as well as the sudden removal of its National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, by a Federal High Court in Abuja, was not shocking to them, considering the conflicting interests of its leaders.
According to the spokesman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, PDP was “a congregation of economic hit-men and women.”
He noted that the problems rocking the acclaimed largest party in Africa could be traced to its “decrepit and utterly languid foundation.”
His words, “The party is not structured on an ideological belief of using politics as a tool for economic emancipation of the Nigerian people and the nation.
“You may also look at the antecedents of its members and the common thread is that the party is a congregation Economic hit men and women that are out to feather their nests at the expense of the people.”
Fashakin noted that, all problems the PDP is facing now could be traced to selfish interests.
He stated, “The internal hemorrhage of the PDP is necessary nay imperative for Nigeria and its people to have a good and clean break from the destructive politics of the party.
“They had hitherto congregated to wage a war, through the unprogressive governance of Nigeria, on the people. Let their fight go on.
“We are not surprised. Like a Yoruba proverb, it is the same bad motive that has brought them together that will scatter them.”
In his own reaction, the National Chairman, Action Congress of Nigeria, Chief Bisi Akande, on Friday, described the PDP as “a party in perpetual turmoil.”
According to him, Oyinlola, who succeeded him as Osun State Governor in 2003 and was subsequently sacked by a court on November 26, 2010, benefitted from a flawed process.
The party chieftain observed that it was the same way a former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Segun Oni, was fired by the Court of Appeal in October 2010.
“Nigerians witnessed how the PDP came together during the oil subsidy removal crisis and frustrated Nigerians.
“Illegality, impunity and lack of respect for due process are key to PDP operations. That’s why Mr. Segun Oni was removed by the court and thus Oyinlola’s removal was not unexpected.
“Both Oyinlola and Oni were products of the same illegal South-West PDP congress, which the court has nullified.”
Acting Chairman, Osun ACN, Mr. Adebiyi, predicted that the PDP would crumble under the weight of the crisis bedevilling it.
He said, “The PDP is synonymous with violence, crisis and disunity. This is the beginning of the disintegration of the party.”
Speaking on the development, SNG spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, disclosed that he saw the war in PDP coming.
He voiced his conviction thus: “The Peoples Democratic Party is not a political party. Dr. Patrick Wilmot once said the PDP is like a criminal organisation. It is not different from a group of armed robbers who are united before an operation; they plan and execute the operation together but fight when it is time to share the loot. They are looting Nigeria and are fighting over the sharing the proceeds of their loot.”
The respected activist said that members of PDP were not after the interest of the masses.
He said: “Everyone in the party is after what they would get out of Nigeria. None of them in the party is fighting for Nigeria; they are just fighting for their pockets and what they can get out of the nation.”
