Iran's Ahmadinejad Makes Historic Visit to Cairo

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, has become the first leader of the Islamic Republic to visit Cairo since the 1979 Islamic revolution, arriving in the Egyptian capital on Tuesday.

Egypt's Islamist President Mohamed Morsi welcomed Mr Ahmadinejad at Cairo airport as he disembarked from the plane, television footage showed.
Mr Ahmadinejad, who is on a three-day visit, will attend an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation conference in Cairo and will hold talks with Egyptian officials, Iranian media said ahead of the trip.
Before leaving Tehran, Mr Ahmadinejad told reporters that during his visit he would work towards strengthening bilateral ties with Cairo.
"I will try to pave the ground for developing cooperation between Iran and Egypt," he was quoted as saying by Iran's official IRNA news agency. Without elaborating, he said the visit would "definitely influence the bilateral ties" between Tehran and Cairo.

Keshi reveals winning strategy against Mali, says Victor Moses is a doubt for Sunday’s final

By

Stephen Keshi has revealed that Victor Moses, is a major doubt for the AFCON final game against Burkina Faso. The Chelsea forward, who has been in sparkling form at the tournament, picked up a knock in the semi-final clash against Mali and would need a scan, to determine his chances of playing on Sunday.
“The Doctor would do some scan and hopefully, it would not be a bad one because we need all the players in the final. We need everybody in the team for the final match,” Keshi said after the 4-1 win.
Keshi dedicated the victory to Nigerians and said the game plan against the Malians, who he coached between 2008 and 2010, was to up the tempo and dictate play.
“Mali is a very strong and good team, with key and talented players like Seydou Keita but they are a bit slow, so we attacked them quickly, by putting the ball to the ground, which worked out well for us,” he said.
“I dedicate this victory to God and also Nigerians because they missed this sort of thing for a very long time.
“My goal is to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians”

By

Odemwingie trains aloneFrom every indication, it appears Peter Osaze Odemwingie’s days at West Brom are over, as Sportmail reports this morning, that he is in line for a loan move to Crystal Palace, when the emergency loan window opens on Thursday.
The Nigerian forward, only last week, unsuccessfully tried to force a move away from the Hawthorns to Queens Park Rangers, on transfer deadline day.
The south London club, will pay West Brom an initial fee for Odemwingie and another amount, if they are promoted to England’s top flight.
Ian Holloway is keen on Odemwingie, especially after Wilfried Zaha’s summer move to Manchester United, has been wrapped up.

No regret dropping Osaze, others – Keshi •Says 1994 squad better

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has said that he does not need all the good players in Nigeria to build a strong team and as such does not regret leaving out any player for the African cup.
Keshi dropped West Bromwich striker Osaze Odemwingie and Levante top scorer Obafemi Martins and kept faith in many players who had not appeared in any major international tournament at the senior level – some of them were picked from the Nigerian league.
The coach said most Nigerians did not understand why he dropped the players, noting that the present team has performed excellently without the players he rejected.
He said, “When we were in Portugal, there were lots of problems in Nigeria because I decided to drop some of my good players. Most Nigerians did not understand but I know why I dropped them. You don’t need all the good players to do the job for you in a tournament; sometimes what you need is strong mentality in the team.
“You need team players and those who will work for the team. There are lots of talents in this team but they need time to play together to understand themselves.”
The coach gave the impression that he was not under pressure when the team was struggling to qualify from the group stage of the 2013 Nations Cup. After the victory over Mali in the semi-final on Wednesday, Keshi said he was aware of the difficulties ahead when the team arrived in South Africa for the tournament.
He said, “When we started, it was a little bit difficult. We were just coming together for the first time. Most of the players had two or three days to work together during the qualifying series.
“But during the preparation for the competition, we worked hard. I knew that the first two or three games in the tournament might be hard for us because of fatigue and other difficult factors. In a competition like this, you never can tell what’s going to be. But the moment we got it right, that is it; we started winning because of the high level of discipline and commitment in the camp.”
Keshi said the present team were still not as good as the 1994 squad that won the Nations Cup in Tunisia and qualified for the World Cup. Keshi was the captain of the side but he highlighted the difference between the two teams.
“The 1994 squad took five years to build. This team is just five week-old. I don’t want people to get it wrong, we are just growing. Don’t think we are there yet. We are still adding and subtracting and if I see any player that will add quality to the team, I will bring him in,” the coach said.

What Keshi told us before 2013 AFCON –Papa Idris

by David Ngobua
Kano Pillars and Super Eagles defender, Papa Idris has said soon after he was appointed to coach the Eagles, the first thing Stephen Keshi told his players was that they were going to be champions of Africa in 2013.
Although he could not make the final list of players for the Nations Cup, Idris was a regular face in the Super Eagles when Keshi took over in November 2011.
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the skilful left footed defender said the coach told them that even as he was going to start rebuilding the national team, if they work really hard and remain focused, they would shock everybody by winning the trophy.
Idris said he and his team mates believed what coach Keshi told them so everything that is happening to the Eagles in South Africa is not a surprise to him.
He said the players have remained disciplined and committed and winning the trophy is now a possibility.
“I am not surprised by what is happening in South Africa. The moment the ‘big boss’ was appointed, he called us together and told us that we would be champions of Africa, if we work harder.
“We all took his words seriously and continued to work with utmost commitment. What is happening now will surprise many Nigerians but for those of us who have been part of the process, we are not surprised by it”, he disclosed.
Idris also expressed happiness with the superlative performances of his colleagues in the NPL who are making waves with the Eagles in South Africa.
“I am happy that my colleagues in the NPL are doing really well. Since the championship started, Oboabona has been a super regular in the defence. Look at the goal Sunday Mba scored against Cote d’Ivoire. I am proud of them”.
Idris therefore called on Nigerians to stand firmly behind the team as he said by the special grace of God, nothing will stop Eagles from winning the Cup.
“What the Eagles need most now is prayers. We have to keep praying for the team. I have no doubt in my mind that Eagles will lift the trophy on Sunday. Physically, I am not with them in South Africa but I am there with them in spirit”, he said.
