Santa Monica Shooting Reported Blocks Away From Santa Monica College, 1 Person Dead (UPDATES)

LOS ANGELES -- Multiple gunshot victims were reported in Santa Monica, Calif., early Tuesday morning.

The crime scene is just blocks away from Santa Monica College, where a gunman went on a shooting rampage on Friday.

Two men were transported to the hospital after police responded to a call about gunshots at around 8:20 a.m. on the 1500 block of Michigan Avenue, reports CBS Los Angeles.

The victims were transported to a local hospital to undergo surgery. One man died of his wounds, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Authorities say that the suspect allegedly approached the two victims in an alley and began firing. Police are searching for the suspect and a car, which may be a blue Infinity, notes the Los Angeles Times.

As of 9:30 a.m., the campus of Santa Monica College was not on lockdown, the college president's office told The Huffington Post. Final exams have concluded, and the campus is mostly quiet except for activity preparing for the school's graduation this evening.

The grounds had just re-opened to students on Monday.

Authorities identified Friday's gunman as 23-year-old John Zawahri. Zawahri, a former Santa Monica College student, began his deadly rampage at his childhood home on Yorkshire Avenue, where he killed his father and brother. He fatally shot three more people on the campus of Santa Monica College, where police engaged him in a gunfight. He later died of his wounds.

Rubio Urges Republican Senators Not To Endorse His Own Immigration Bill

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is urging his Republican colleagues to refrain from publicly endorsing a comprehensive immigration bill he helped write in hopes of bolstering its border security provisions and possibly delaying the path to citizenship for the nation’s 11.1 million undocumented immigrants.

According to the Huffington Post, Rubio urged Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) to keep silent about her support for the measure before the first-term lawmaker endorsed the legislation on Sunday during an appearance on Face the Nation, calling it a “thoughtful bipartisan solution to a tough problem.” In a separate editorial, Ayotte also wrote that she would “support strengthening the legislation’s border security measures even further.”

Rubio “has not been telling them to vote no,” a Senate Democratic aide told HuffPo, “He has been apparently holding people back from declaring support for the bill, while at the same time saying the bill needs changes in order to garner support. My understanding is he told Sen. Ayotte’s office to hold back, but she didn’t care.”

Rubio initially praised the senate bill for “the toughest enforcement measures in the history of the United States” but has since walked a delicate balance, telling conservatives that he will support amendments that will prevent immigrants from attaining permanent legal status until the border is secure, while assuring Hispanic media that the path to legalization will not be lengthened.

For instance, on June 4th, Rubio told conservative talker Hugh Hewitt that he wouldn’t vote for his own bill if more stringent border security amendments “don’t pass” the Senate and appeared to support a measure crafted by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) that would require the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Comptroller General to, among other requirements, certify that the government can monitor and control “every segment of the Southern border” before any immigrants in provisional status can file for lawful permanent residence. Under the senate bill, immigrants can apply for lawful status after the secretary submits border security and a fencing strategies to Congress and insures that both are “substantially deployed and substantially operational.”

Five days after appearing on Hewitt, Rubio informed Univision that “Nobody is talking aboutpreventing the legalization.” “The legalization is going to happen,” Rubio said. “That means the following will happen: First comes the legalization. Then come the measures to secure the border. And then comes the process of permanent residence.”

Amaechi’s Kinsmen Vow To Resist Plot To Remove Him From Office

Embattled Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi yesterday received the support of his kinsmen – the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, who insisted that he must be allowed to complete his second tenure despite mounting intrigues and plots to oust him from office.

The Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organization Worldwide, the Ikwerre Development Association, the Ikwerre Youth Movement and the Ikwerre Women Forum came to this unanimous decision during their meeting in Port Harcourt on Monday.

President General of Ogbkor Ikwerre, Professor Austine Onyeozu in his opening speech insisted that “the people of Ikwerre ethnic Nationality will not fold their arms and allow Amaechi to be humiliated and pulled down by those opposed to his style of governance.”

“If you have any problem with Amaechi, take him to court; there is no problem with that. Today, they are calling Amaechi a bad man so that they can bring him down,” he said.

Toeing a similar line, member representing Ikwerre/Emohua federal constituency in the House of Representatives Andrew Uchendu, said the people of Ikwerre are concerned over the unwarranted attacks on the person of Amaechi and wondered what he did to merit such attacks, declaring that Ikwerre people will stand by the governor “in this trying time.”

Man Says He Had Sex with Unconscious Neighbor 'to Save Her Life'

U.S. - Police in Utah say a St. George man charged with raping his unconscious neighbor claimed he put his penis inside her to "save her life."

"He said he did place it inside of her to try and get her temperature up," reads the probable cause statement filed against 50-year-old Rodger William Kelly.

When officers arrived at the victim's house on May 19th, they reportedly found Kelly inside the residence performing CPR.

Kelly told the cops he had spotted woman lying unconscious outside her apartment and proceeded to bring her inside. He then changed her clothes and placed her on the bed.

Kelly says he then held the woman and "attempted intercourse to warm her."

It is unclear who phoned in the report of an unconscious person that prompted police to visit the residence.

After coming to, the woman told police she believed she had been raped after finding bruising on her upper thighs.

According to Kelly, he and the victim had slept together before, but the woman had since informed him that she was no longer interested in having sex with him.

Kelly was arrested Friday and booked into Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility on a charge of first-degree rape. His bail was set at $25,000.
