Italian runner Devis Licciardi is accused of using a 'Whizzinator' -- a fake penis used to hold clean urine -- in order to cheat on a doping test.
According to Italian news agency Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata, Licciardi filled the artificial organ with uncontaminated urine and used it in a doping test at the 10km road-running championship at Molfetta, in southern Italy. He faces a disciplinary hearing Wednesday.
Licciardi, who competes for the Italian Air Force team, could face a lengthy ban if convicted.
In 2005, former NFL running back Onterrio Smith was questioned by officials at a Minnesota airport after an inspection of his bag found a similar device and bags of freeze-dried urine. He was later suspended for violating the league's substance abuse policies.
