PDP Raises Alarm Over Plan By Edo Govt. To Sell Edo Line Transport •“Go To Hell!” – Gov. Oshiomhole

Adams-OshiomholeThe Edo State chapter of Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, has raised the alarm over moves by Governor Adams Oshiomhiole to sell the highly valued Edo Transport Company Limited.
This was disclosed by the State PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih while speaking to party supporters at a campaign rally held in Uromi, headquarters of Esan northeast council area, weekend ahead of the October 22, 2013 rescheduled local government rerun election in the area and eight other wards in three other council areas of the state.
However, in a swift reply yesterday, the State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Isimemen Iriogwe, said, “The PDP people are all liars. There is nothing like that. The governor set up the panel to look at various options and come up with ways to reposition the company among which is on ways to pay the arrears of salaries owed workers of Edo line”.
In a very terse reaction to the allegation, the governor’s special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Prince Kassim Afegbua said, “The PDP should go to hell. When they ran the state for several years what did they do?”
The domestic transport firm, formerly known as Armels Transport Company, was purchased from its then foreign owners by the military administration of Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia of the old Midwestern region, who later changed the name to Midwest Line and later Edo Line.
But Mr. Orbih, who called on Governor Oshiomhole to allow officials of EDSIEC conduct free, fair and credible polls if indeed he is an apostle of one man, one vote said, “It is no longer news that Adams Oshiomhole wants to sell Edo house in Lagos but what is news is what I want to tell you; you are aware that for some time now you can no longer travel from this state to any state with Edo Line. Adams Oshiomhole, we have very strong information that he has concluded the process of selling Edo Line.”
According to him, “Two weeks ago, he set up a special panel (committee) headed by the commissioner for transport with four others to put in place what they are owing in Edo Line and what they need to pay to enable him sell Edo Line. Edo Line was established by Ogbemudia very many years ago. Successive governments in Edo state have continued to maintain that outfit.”
“We have properties in Port Harcourt, Abuja, Lagos and everywhere even in Kano. Those properties are part of what he wants to sell.”
“He has brought a company that bought Iyoba primary school to assess what it can pay for Edo Line headquarters so that he will establish another Chop Rite. What type of government do we have in Edo state today? Edo people are now beginning to know the man Adams Oshiomhole”, the PDP chairman said.

GENERAL GOWON ON THE PEOPLES GENERAL BUHARI

When he was chairman at General Buhari’s book launch a few years ago at the Trade Fair Complex in Kaduna, he asked Buhari whether he still remembered that day in July 1966 when the then Major Murtala Muhammed marched him (Buhari, then a lieutenant) to him, saying if he (Gowon) needed a trustworthy and competent ADC, he (Buhari) was his best bet. That was the day Gowon took over as head of state. Gowon then told Buhari it was only God that knew then that all three of them (Murtala, Buhari and himself) would be heads of state. Gowon was not bitter that both Murtala and Buhari were among those who removed him from power in 1975. That is the kind of human being that Gowon is. When Murtala marched Buhari to him to be his ADC, Gowon took a careful look at Buhari and said, “If I make this one ADC, people will not know who is the head of state.” Buhari was far taller than him and, for that, he found him unsuitable as his ADC. He appointed someone else and posted Buhari to Makurdi for an assignment far beyond Buhari’s rank, since he had been well recommended by Murtala. It was a difficult assignment but Buhari performed well, paving the way for his own rapid rise in the army. He also did not forget to thank General Buhari for the extraordinary kindness he showed him when he (Buhari) was head of state and he (Gowon) was still in London.

But no one should take Gowon’s seeming meekness for weakness. General Obasanjo would be the first to tell you that. At the beginning of Obasanjo’s presidency (1999-2007), when fuel scarcity had started embarrassing the country, Gowon led former heads of state to the presidential villa and told President Obasanjo that Buhari had an idea of how the fuel scarcity problem would be solved. Buhari was Obasanjo’s petroleum minister when he was military head of state and, throughout that period, there was never fuel scarcity. But Obasanjo would not let Buhari explain. He kept interrupting him at every turn. At a point, Gowon shouted at Obasanjo and asked him to shut up and listen to what Buhari had to say. Obasanjo kept quiet immediately and Buhari continued with his narrative. Of course, Obasanjo did not implement any of the suggestions as he was really not interested in solving the problem.

GEN. BUHARI WITH THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY.

General Muhammadu Buhari, an icon of unity, religious tolerance and believe in the only true and Almighty God.GEN. BUHARI WHILE VISITING THE ARCHBISHOP EXPRESSED HIS CONDEMNATION AGAINST GAY MARRIAGES. HE ALSO EXPRESSED THE NEED FOR ALL TO WORK TOGETHER FOR A PEACEFUL WORLD. Buhari is the only head of state that jailed a popular and respected Muslim cleric "Iman" for preaching violence. General Buhari has never been seen parading himself with Islamic clerics, even though he is a devout Muslim. He sees himself as father to both Muslim and Christians. General Buhari till date has staff in his office in Kaduna who are Christians. Show me a retired general, president, or even Col in the south who is a Christian but have Muslims as his personal staff. late Ojukwu before he died has none, Ekwueme has none etc. Show me a picture where General Buhari was kneeling down or went to a popular Muslim clerics for prayers or to commission a Mosque. General Buhari never commissioned a Mosque as a head of state. General Buhari is Muslim with one wife, decent and disciplined children. General Buhari is a devout Muslim, but never had any special Islamic training as a scholar. General Buhari picked a radical and popular pastor as his running mate. Which Christian has picked a popular and radical islamic preacher as a running mate. General buhari is an example of a leader that should be followed. HE IS NOT A RELIGIOUS FANATIC. FACTS SPEAKS

PLOT TO SACK EFCC BOSS, LAMORDE THICKENS

Plot to Sack EFCC Boss, Lamorde Thickens
…As Group Drums Support for Almustapha
Destiny Ugorji
There are strong indications that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan may be considering the sack of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, over non-performance and alleged corruption.

A presidential source who spoke on the grounds of anonymity confirmed the report during an exclusive chat with our Correspondent.
According to the source, “Yes, it is true. President Jonathan is seriously considering the sack of the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Lamorde. You will agree with me that the EFCC under him is not working. There are uncountable cases of corruption hanging around his neck and you know, that it is not good for someone who is supposed to lead the fight against corruption. In fact, I can authoritatively tell you that Mr. President is quietly shopping for a replacement for him. He needs someone that will be bold and sincere in the anti- corruption war. President Jonathan wants somebody who will be bold enough to ask him the right questions and investigate even his own aides. He does not want dirty deals.”
Atlantic Reporters’ investigations revealed that there are several indicting reports against Mr. Lamorde, emanating from intelligence gathering around the Commission.
An impeccable government source further revealed that the Presidency is inundated with petitions on the activities of the Anti-corruption Agency, a situation that compelled him to embark on secret investigations on the matter.
“Daily, Mr. President’s office is flooded with petitions against the activities of the EFCC leadership. The petitions became so much that President Jonathan personally decided to investigate the allegations. His special team embarked on sting operations and later forwarded their reports to the President. I do not have the details of their report, but I know that they are not very favourable. Even without that, every Nigerian can testify that the anti-corruption war under the present EFCC leadership is a joke.”
Further investigations revealed that the National Assembly Committee on Anti-corruption recently visited the Commission, as well as other Anti-corruption Agencies as part of their oversight functions.
The report of the visit is also said to be unfavourable to the EFCC, as, according to a National Assembly source, “the EFCC Chairman’s presentation, as well as his response to questions were incoherent.”
Part of the allegations leveled against Mr. Lamorde is that he compromises the anti-corruption war by accepting gratifications and freeing persons accused of corruption.
Another puzzle that the Commission under Lamorde has not been able to solve for Nigerians is the unreasonable number of Policemen in the Commission.
Available statistics suggest that out of about one thousand, two hundred and fifty Staff of the Commission, seven hundred of them are said to be Policemen, a situation stakeholders described as unacceptable.
While many see the EFCC as another arm of the Police Force, others blame their presence on the alleged corruption in the Commission.
“When you pack seven hundred corrupt uniform men from a terribly corrupt Police Force to handle an anti-corruption Agency like the EFCC, what were you expecting?”, queried a Civil Society expert.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of the obvious, a group that calls itself the Northern Emancipation Network has advised President Goodluck Jonathan to reinforce his administration’s war against corruption by appointing Hamza Al Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late dictator, Sani Abacha, as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The group made the call at a press conference yesterday addressed by its Coordinator, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, who described Mr. Al-Mustapha as a ‘brave, fearless and honest intelligence officer’ capable of taking the administration’s corruption war to the desired level.
“While we commend Mr. President’s committed war against corruption, we advise him to reinforce the EFCC with an equally committed and dedicated head like Major Hamza Al Mustapha who is capable of moving the graft war to the desired level,” he said.
The group said corrupt politicians; particularly the “bankrupt northern political leadership” are already jittery with the release of Mr. Al Mustapha from prison after 14 years of incarceration.
According to the group, “even after going through 14 years of unjust persecution in the hands of these people, Mr. Al-Mustapha is not an officer known to harbour vengeance and will therefore carry out the corruption war unbiased without fear or favour.”

Police 'extremely pleased' with new tips after Madeleine McCann appeal

Metropolitan Police
Metropolitan Police released two computer-generated images of a second man seen carrying a young girl near Praia da Luz about the time of Madeleine McCann's disappearance in May 2007.
LONDON -- Police said late Monday they were “extremely pleased” after a television appeal about the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann that prompted two separate tipoffs giving the same name for a suspect.
More than 300 calls and 170 emails were received from viewers after the BBC aired a reconstruction about the girl, who vanished from her parents' vacation apartment when she was three years old.
Two witnesses independently provided police with the same name in response to a computer-generated image shown on the broadcast, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said during the show.
The image represents a man seen carrying a child towards the beach near the the Praia da Luz resort in Algarve, Portugal, where Madeleine went missing at around 10 p.m. local time on May 3, 2007, London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
The suspect is described as being white, aged in his 30s, with short brown hair, of medium build, medium height and clean shaven, cops added.
"We are extremely pleased with the response,” Detective Chief Inspector Redwood said. “We will now take the time to follow up these lines of inquiry.”
"Our appeal continues and later today I will be travelling to Holland, and tomorrow Germany, to continue the appeal for information,” he added. "Madeleine remains at the heart of everything we do and I will continue to update the McCann family as more information is received by the incident room."
Portuguese police closed the investigation in 2008, but after two years of reviewing case documents, London cops reopened the case which has transfixed Britain in July, saying there was a good chance Madeleine was still alive.
For years attention was focused on a man whom a friend of the McCanns said she saw carrying a small girl near the McCanns' apartment but investigators said they had effectively ruled out this sighting.
Instead Metropolitan Police released new descriptions and electronic images Monday of a different man, saying the man who was seen carrying the girl is now believed to have been a resort guest who likely had nothing to do with Madeleine's disappearance.
In an earlier interview on the BBC program "Crimewatch," DCI Redwood said  the resort where the McCanns were staying on vacation had a nighttime child-care center where eight families that week were boarding 11 children. He said investigators had tracked down the families — one of which told them that they believed they were seen taking their daughter to the child-care center for the night.

"I would say it was a revelation moment," Redwood said.
Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, put Madeleine and her twin siblings to bed about 8:30 p.m. in May 3, 2007, and went to have dinner with friends at the resort's tapas bar.
Because Kate McCann reported that she'd discovered that Madeleine was missing at 10 p.m., the investigation has focused on events that might have occurred during that 90-minute window, when the man carrying the child was spotted by one of the McCann's friends, Redwood said.
With that man now largely ruled out, police have widened the timeline they're examining, Redwood said, and in the last few months they have opened two other investigative trails.
"We're able to allow the clock to continue moving forward and allow things that have not been quite as significant or received quite the same degree of attention to be the center of our focus," Redwood said on "Crimewatch."

An undated picture shows Madeleine McCann, who was allegedly abducted in May 2007.
The day Madeleine disappeared, several unknown people were observed near the McCanns' apartment — including a second man who was spotted carrying a young girl later that night. This man was heading toward the beach — away from the resort.
It is this man who is featured in the two new composite images made public Monday, he said.
"He was a white man with brown hair, and the child that he had in his arms was described as being about 3 to 4 years of age with blond hair, possibly wearing pajamas, a description very close to that of Madeleine McCann," Redwood said.
Two witnesses helped police compile detailed facial reconstructions of the man using a method called the Electronic Facial Identification Technique (e-fit). Police released those images Monday and asked anyone with any information about him to come forward.
Earlier in the day — before Madeleine was reported missing — two men were also seen on the balcony of an empty apartment two doors down from the McCanns', Redwood quoted witnesses as having said. A third man was spotted on the balcony about an hour later. And at 6 p.m., a man was seen loitering in a stairwell of the McCanns' apartment block.
Then, an hour after Madeleine was reported missing, two men were interrupted on the street having a discussion "in raised voices," after which they "walked away in hushed tones," Redwood said.Taken together, the evidence indicates that Madeleine's disappearance has "the hallmarks of a preplanned abduction," Redwood said. "That would have undoubtedly involved reconaissance, and so we're really keen to understand who these people were."
The second new investigative thread is more pedestrian but possibly equally significant.
During the first half of 2007, burglaries jumped by 400 percent in the area around the resort, Redwood said. Two of them occurred in the McCanns' apartment block in the three weeks before the arrived.
The burglars, none of whom have ever been caught, entered and left through windows — the same way investigators believe Madeleine's abductor escaped.
"Possibly, there is a scenario where Madeleine could possibly have disturbed someone trying to commit a burglary," Redwood said.
Last week, officials said they were examining every cellphone number used in the area at the time of the girl's disappearance.
For a brief period, Gerry and Kate McCann were suspected of having had a role in their daughter's disappearance. In their interview Monday on "Crimewatch," they reiterated that their family were the victims and said it took them a long time to come to peace with their decision to leave the children behind when they went to dinner.
"These (things) can eat away at you," Gerry McCann said. "It's been like a mantra to me, to look forward, to always look forward and it still can be done."
Kate McCann said it took her "longer to get to that point, and I did persecute myself for the decision to eat at the tapas restaurant for weeks, months, years, I'd say."
"You know, why did we think that was OK?" she asked. "But it doesn't help. It doesn't help Madeleine. And ultimately it's not us that committed this crime. It was the person that's gone into that room and taken a little girl away from her family."

School Teacher Killed In Front Of Students

Screen_Shot_2013-10-12_at_10.50.18_AM-624x400

A community is in mourning after an elementary school teacher was killed in front of her students.
Kellye Taylor, 53, a teacher at Huntington Academy in Long Beach, Calif., was fatally stabbed in the back Friday as she was watching her students in the park for what the school calls “Fun Friday.”
Some of the two dozen kindergarten-to-sixth-grade children who were playing at the park witnessed the attack, the Associated Press reports. They ran back to the school, which is across from the park, to get help.
“How could they do something like this in front of these babies?” Pamela Huffman, Taylor’s younger sister who also works at the school, said to the Long Beach Press Telegram. “All I could do was run to her. I saw her slip away. I knew she wasn’t going to make it.” A few teachers also witnessed the attack, CBS reports.
Soon after the fatal incident, officers arrested Steven Brown, 50. Police said Brown was the father of Taylor’s grandchildren and was upset that Taylor had custody of her grandchildren, CBS reports. Family members said they didn’t think Brown, the alleged stabber, was capable of anything like murder.
Family and friends held a candlelight vigil Saturday at Orizaba Park, where Taylor was murdered.
“It’s like a nightmare. It’s like I want to wake up from a bad dream,” Mary Bryant, another of Taylor’s sisters, said to KTLA. “But in reality, it is what it is. My sister’s no longer with us.” Taylor has a husband and three children.
“She loved children, and she loved being around children,” Vanessa Kelly, another of Taylor’s sisters, told ABC. “She loved teaching children, and that’s what she did.”
