According to sources on ground in Okoroba, Bayelsa State the helicopter was detailed to ferry Chief Obada from the community but that the man deferred to the late governor and the former NSA. It was learnt that the husband of the Minister of State for Defence, was later ferried to Port Harcourt by another helicopter.
President Goodluck Jonathan was said to have been unable to attend the burial of the father of his Special Adviser on Research and Strategy, Pa Obebra Douglas, because of the need to avoid traffic gridlock in the area. It was gathered that because Okoroba is a small community, the president’s arrival could choke up movement in the area thereby disrupting movement of well wishers and residents.
However, the president had decided to send a good-will message to his aide, having looked at the facts on ground. “The president thought that his arrival in the small community could obstruct movement and the free flow of traffic because his security men would want to control all movements and that such a situation could hurt the burial programme. He thus decided to send goodwill message to his aide, Mr. Oronto Douglas,” a source said.
