A
prominent Nigerian sportsman, Pa John Ojidoh has expressed his
disappointment at the way that Nigerians have suddenly become boastful
about the upcoming Nations Cup quarter final match against Ivory Coast.
And sadly, he says, Stephen Keshi has joined them.
The 86-year-old former football and track and field coach said: “My
son, Keshi, his crew, players and other Nigerians are playing risky
mouth football. They should shut up and take everybody by surprise.
Skill and luck win matches not name or wishes. The 2013 Nations Cup is
full of surprises like Cape Verde and Burkina Faso… It will not be over
until it is over. So, let’s pray and be ready to accept the result that
comes our way. What belongs to all belongs to none. The winner of
Sunday’s match isn’t necessarily the ordained winner of the Cup.”
However, the Ivoirians, on their own part, have been treating their
Nigerian counterparts with some level of respect. In this regard,
Ivoirian striker, Didier Drogba, quickly comes to mind. Drogba has
opined that he expects the game against the Super Eagles to be a tough
one, even though his country has been tipped as one of the favorits to
win the tournament.
