Missing Pension Funds: Abdulrasheed Maina Drags Senate To Court

The chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team who was declared wanted, Abdulrasheed Maina, has decided to drag the Senate before a court to quash the warrant of arrest issued on him by the Senate.
The Senate had ordered that Maina be arrested, following allegations that the task team which he led misappropriated part of the monies it recovered from pension thieves and Maina had also refused to heed the Senate’s summons on the issue.
Maina had said repeatedly that he did not misappropriate any of the pension loot his team recovered, stating that neither he nor his committee had access to the funds which, according to him, had been in the custody of the Federal Government. He is also claiming that the Senate Committee on Pension denied him fair hearing during its sitting, a situation he said amounted to dispensation of unclad injustice and severe persecution being meted to him by the committee.
Therefore, Maina, in a suit (FHC/ ABJ/ CS/ 65/ 20B), filed on Wednesday, by his counsel, Mahmud A. Magaji (SAN), was seeking an order to quash the report of the Senate Committee which alleged that he misappropriated part of the recovered pension loot and to declare the call for his arrest by the police as unconstitutional. He had demanded a total sum of N1.5 billion from the Senate, being cost of damages done to his image by the allegations levelled against him which he insisted were not true.
