“Going by security reports available to me, I may be attacked any day, anywhere, anytime and this is the reason I called on you Christians to pray for me and my family”.
GOV Suswan and Boko Haram
The governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam made the above assertions today, while addressing members of NKST Church, in Makurdi, the state capital.
Governor Suswan decried a situation in which only four Christians from the north were elected governor of their states. Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa; the former National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi, and two of their aides died alongside the two pilots.
Eyewitnesses said the pilots appeared to have sighted a space at the swampy mangrove, few metres to the crash site, and made some efforts to land the ill-fated helicopter.
In an unclear circumstance, the helicopter was said to have attempted going up again but in the process, its blades hit one of the palm trees surrounding the area and it came crashing.
It was learnt that Yakowa’s mobile telephone was intact as it kept ringing after the crash.
“When we brought the body out, we started hearing sounds of phone ringing from the left side of his pocket.
We later discovered that calls were coming to the telephone and it could be from concerned persons but no one answered,” a security source, who pleaded anonymity, said.
Wrecked and burnt parts of the chopper were found littering the area.
The swampy mangrove filled with tall trees and vegetation is located few kilometers to the Okoroba community, off the Ogbia Nembe waterways.
The personal effects of the deceased had been removed from the scene and their charred remains evacuated by security operatives and officials of the National Emergency Management Agency.
An eyewitness, who identified himself as Anthony Marcus, told that a farmer close to the area saw the helicopter as it crashed.
Marcus, who led our correspondent to the crash site, said the farmer raised the alarm that attracted other villagers to the difficult terrain
“When we got there, there was smoke everywhere. But we saw the legs of Kaduna State Governor. The legs were not burnt and part of his traditional attire was intact. We knew him through his attire. But other bodies were burnt beyond recognition,” he said.
He added, “I was at the burial ceremony when the chopper took off. It didn’t take off normally and it was flying very low.”
But it was learnt that some top military officers recovered the black boxes of the helicopter to determine the real cause of the tragedy.
It was also learnt that the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Ogbia, waterside Saturday night shortly after the rescue team located the site and moved to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, under the cover of darkness.

How Defense Minister’s Husband Narrowly Missed the Flight that Took the Lives of Yakowa, Azazi, Others

yakowacrashLatest news about the helicopter crash that took the life of governor of Kaduna State, Patrick Yakowa, former National Security Adviser (NSA) General Owoye Azazi and four others, has revealed that the husband of the Minister of State for Defence, Chief (Mrs) Olusola Obada, Chief Babatunde Obada narrowly missed the ill-fated flight.
According to sources on ground in Okoroba, Bayelsa State the helicopter was detailed to ferry Chief Obada from the community but that the man deferred to the late governor and the former NSA. It was learnt that the husband of the Minister of State for Defence, was later ferried to Port Harcourt by another helicopter.
President Goodluck Jonathan was said to have been unable to attend the burial of the father of his Special Adviser on Research and Strategy, Pa Obebra Douglas, because of the need to avoid traffic gridlock in the area. It was gathered that because Okoroba is a small community, the president’s arrival could choke up movement in the area thereby disrupting movement of well wishers and residents.
However, the president had decided to send a good-will message to his aide, having looked at the facts on ground. “The president thought that his arrival in the small community could obstruct movement and the free flow of traffic because his security men would want to control all movements and that such a situation could hurt the burial programme. He thus decided to send goodwill message to his aide, Mr. Oronto Douglas,” a source said.

Enebeli Elebuwa’s death: “Nollywood stars are hypocrites” – Stella Damasus

Stella Damasus has attacked her fellow Nollywood actors/actresses, calling them pretenders, as more facts surrounding Enebeli Elebuwa’s illness and eventual death, begins to emerge.
Elebuwa had suffered stroke and spent some time in the country, before he was flown to India for further treatment. Damasus accused her colleagues of being pretenders, claiming they did not do enough. According to her, they were more interested in what they could get.
“I’m very angry because the people in my industry are hypocrites,” she said. “That man was ill for a long time in lagos and they turned it into a fanfare. People would go and visit him and take pictures with him, post it on twitter, on Facebook, on their blogs; they used it to make people feel that they are philanthropists but nobody lifted a finger to take care of him or help his family.
“They are more interested in politics; who would be president, how they can visit dignitaries, who would dash them money. Nobody cares about the elderly people in the industry. We know how to celebrate people when they die, but when they are alive, what do we do for them, especially the sick ones?
“The Delta state government eventually sponsored him to India. I’m just very pained.”
