Section
14(2c) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria clearly stipulates that,
“the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of
government.” If it is taken according to its context, it is explicatus
aum that the government of today has failed woefully and abysmally in
its primary duty of protecting its citizens. It is a big shame to
discover that armed robbers cum kidnappers have held our entire
security forces and our dear Edo state to ransom even with the bilions of
naira earmarked as security vote for the Governor. Just this week some
banks and police stations were attacked by unknown gunmen; this same week
precisely on wednesday, Dan Odiete, a prominent estate surveyor was
abducted in Benin city where a mobile policeman and a four years old girl
died. Just this evening, a business man
popularly known as Uyi technical was also abducted. Where are we going?
Since, the Government has failed in its obligation of providing
security, they should enact a law where citizens can armed themselves.
The right to bear arms in English history is believed to have been
regarded as a long-established natural right in English law.
The
Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the
United States Bill of Rights that protects the right of the people to
keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the
rest of the Bill of Rights. Before and after the English Bill of Rights,
the government could always disarm any individual or class of
individuals it considers dangerous to the peace of the realm.

It's a shame that the great Benin kingdom has become the Hub of kidnapping in Nigeria. This is all driven by poverty and people just wanting to get rich over night. The average Benin youth is lazy and very unwilling to struggle to make end meets. What do you expect in a society where accountability means nothing. Someone could become rich over night without no one asking about the source of his money. Benin city will suffer on the long run if the government doesn't do something about this anarchy society which it is turning into.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary. The average Benin youth is not lazy. The failure of Govts. at all levels to provide gainful employment for the youths is the main issue. Added to that is the moral values we hand down to the youths. People in govt, and positions of authority display their stolen wealth with impunity. Their children follow in the same vein. When moral values and teachings return to the grass root and in our schools, better days are ahead. Thanks for your comments.
DeleteWe should call spade a spade. The now Youth(under 35yrs) are very very lazy, speaking from facts, they lack focus. The still want to be bottle feed. Are not responsible for election Ringing at all level. The government not acting is based on the saying that you can't eat your Cake and still have it. I remember in my 20's finished school. i started as sales boy for 50naira a month, enter NDE. same 50naira a pocket money from NDE, finished as a trained lithographer From SADOH Press, Still know stable Job, started Buying Ebony from Airport road that i will take to Lagos for sales and coming back from lagos, i will bought SMC sealing fan to be sold in Benin City. How many of the so called Youth can still do this.
DeleteThe young benin youths are lazy and very unpredictable. These young youths have no education and they dont want to work at all. They are crazy about overseas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. Reasons have been highlighted for the trend of the youths going abroad. Failure of govts to provide basic neccessities is one. The moral values handed to the youths by our elders is another. I am not supporting the percieved laziness of youths, but we have to lay the blame at the door steps of where it should be. In essence, the failure of govts at all levels years back.
DeleteCrazy about Overseas is one thing and Laziness is another, so we shouldn't get confused because its not in records that those who travelled overseas come back home to start Kidnapping, instead people in diaspora a targets. Those responsible for this atrocity are not interested about travelling. They are lazy and lack focus. Everything is government! what are we doing as a person do help our self or our states. This same youth were used to ring election that give them their way to the hot-seat. Third generation churches(small letter c)? I hope they release Uyi technical without Harm.
DeleteUyi has been released. Happy New Year. Your observation noted.
