PDP chieftains in free-for-all... 2 time commissioner lands in hospital

By PATRICK OJENOR
BENIN CITY- Two time Commissioner in the defunct Bendel State, and later Edo State and currently a People Democratic party (PDP) stalwart in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the State, Dr. Omokaro Izevbigie (J.P) has been allegedly beaten up by a former chairman of oil and Gas, Edo State Hon. Larry Ogieva who is also a PDP stalwart in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

Investigations by The NIGERIAN OBSERVER revealed that Dr. Omokaro Izevbigie was beaten up in the evening of last Monday by Hon. Larry Ogieva.

Sources close to Dr. Izevbigie disclosed that trouble started when party members went to the senatorial office of the former Deputy Governor of the state Lucky Imasuen who is now leader of PDP South-South, to collate or submit names of some people for employment.

When The NIGERIAN OBSERVER visited the former commissioner at his hospital bed, he managed to speak, revealing that he was shocked when Mr. Larry Ogieva lost his temper and pushed him before dealing deadly blows on him that sent him to the hospital.

Dr. Omokaro Izevbigie maintained that to put the ugly situation under control, he quickly reported the matter to Larry Ogieva’s elder brother, Nosa Ogieva who again encouraged his younger brother to beat him up mercilessly.

The former commissioner disclosed that he was surprised to have a dirty slap on his face before he was hit on his hand, which rendered him unconscious as he collapsed on the ground where other party members quickly rushed him to specialist Hospital in Benin City.

One of the party members who preferred anonymity told The NIGERIAN OBSERVER that Mr. Larry Ogieva is now on the run to avoid police arrest. The police, this paper learnt has been on his trail over the incident.

All efforts made by The NIGERIAN OBSERVER to see the former deputy governor of the state and now leader of PDP South-South for comment proved abortive. Attempts to also obtain the comments of Mr. Larry Ogieva proved futile.

When The NIGERIAN OBSERVER visited the Airport Road Police Station, Benin City where the matter was reported, the Divisional Police Officer who would not officially confirm the incident, used unprintable words on journalists. “Journalists are bad people. They are not friends of the police,” the hostile DPO thundered.

However, our reporter independently confirmed that the matter was reported at the Airport Road Police Station in Benin. Our investigation on the matter continues.
