The House of Representatives Committee
on Public Account has threatened to issue a warrant of arrest on the
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),
Professor Attahiru Jega and his National Population Commission (NPC)
counterpart, Mr Festus Odimegwu.
According to the committee, the move became necessary as both men repeatedly failed to appear before the committee.
Both
men had been invited to defend discrepancies in the accounts of the
commissions, as discovered by the office of the Auditor General of the
Federation.
Chairman of the committee, Solomon Adeola said the INEC boss had shunned the invitations of the committee five times.
He warned that the committee would issue a warrant of arrest on Mr Jega on Thursday and compel the Inspector General of Police to ensure that he appears before the committee in a week’s time.
