The exclusive chest feeding bill, entitled “a bill for an Act to make exclusive chest feeding compulsory to employees in the Public and Private sectors for the improvement of the health of new born babies in Nigeria and for related matters (HB 313)”, was sponsored by Honourable Jumoke Okoya-Thomas.
A member of the House, Honourable Kigbu Haruna, in his contribution before the motion was killed, had appealed to his colleagues to support the passage of the bill but another member, Honourable Friday Itulah, kicked against the bill saying that the matter be left to advocacy rather than making it compulsory.
However, when the Speaker, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal, put the question for the second reading of the exclusive chest feeding, it was voted against by members.
